ZT 0301 or ZT 0551

The 0301 is not a edc knife. Its a awesome folder but would be like driving around in a dump truck.:D The "can of soup in the pocket" is the most accurate analogy. The 0350, 0400 and 0551 are designed for edc. The last 3 are still heavy duty knives.

The 0300 is great, but does just a few things that irritate me (re-curved blade, short thumb ramp).
The 0550 is small, but it's also the cheapest Hinderer out there, and being a ZT you probably won't even see a drop in quality.

just get both and be happy.

Well said! I have and love my ZT 0301 - what a beast and with speedsafe and flipper, gotta love it. It's sure made well.

I'm on Kershawguy's list for the new ZT 0551 and hope to be pleasntly surprised. Rick Hinderer doesn't design junk and ZT doesn't make any.

If you can only get one, get the 0551, since its a limited production run. The 0301s should be around for a while, so you can pick one up later, when you finally give in to the standard BF recommendation, "Buy them both". :D

Not the biggest fan of the 301.....I thought I would be.. The shape is awful, the weight is too much and the TI frame lock isn't as big as a Strider yet it weighs 3oz more. The blade shape is practically unusable.

551 no brainer.

I have to disagree with some of your remarks in this thread too. Since we don't even have a ZT 0551 in hand yet, I can't comment. The blade shape is what it is. Very thick for hard use, able to pry - I assume you've seen the YT video of the guy prying "nailed together" lumber apart with a 0301?

Sharpened properly which isn't such a big chore and has a nice sweet spot in the recurve for cutting heavy cord or wiring if needed. You're comparing the weight to a Strider which it isn't, at far less than 1/2 the price.

I've never seen or heard of a lock blowing out on a ZT 0301 which includes Rick Hinderer's lock bar stop to control the Ti side movement. The F&F are on par with a Strider at an affordable price. The tip isn't built for ice pick stabs but it's made to withstand some prying if needed.

I think Striders are massive in the back end and not well designed for a clipped folder carry. I'll keep the addtl. $250 - $300 in my pocket and stick it next to a ZT 0301 / 2 over the Strider Triangle design folders.

I respect any knife nuts knife but the ZT offerings are top notch for their price point IMO. ;)
