ZT 0301 Replacment

How about a Cold Steel Recon 1 in the new CTS-XHP? Way below your budget, with excellent steel, DLC coating, relatively lightweight, and a stronger lock than even the 301!

With the Dua, you'd be dropping 1/2 inch of blade and 1 inch overall length, as well as about 3oz. It was the first knife I thought of when I saw this thread; but your opening post led me to believe you wanted comparable size/weight.
I was looking at them for a while, but never seriously enough to place the order. Now that the ti-ti version is available, I've been tossing the idea around again.

The grayman satu is looking really good. I know it's a little more expensive but looks like it's def one to put on the list. Not really wanting to give up the size to the dua

Grayman Satu with a 4" blade is smooth beast. Mine is all stonewashed titanium and weighs a whopping 11.48 ounces. For comparison: ZT 0300BW is 8.1 oounces, MicroTech DOC is 7.51 ounces and Reate District 9-A is 7.39 ounces. All except Satu have a 3.75" blade.

Made in the USA is also something that's important to me. Is the Reate an import?

Reate is the definition of made in China, along with Kizer. Very high quality, but certainly not US made.

To be fair, though, almost anything you buy in the US was made with tools and materials made in China, so it's really kind of a useless distinction in my eyes, but I have plenty of silly opinions of my own that are easily criticized so I should really just stop typing.

Check out Hogue knives. The EX-01 and EX-04 are VERY sturdy and beefy and confidence-inspiring knives that are hand-assembled in the US and designed by Allen Elishewitz, one of the finest knifemakers to live - and I believe the youngest person to become a chairman of the Knifemaker's Guild. I have handled about a half dozen Hogue knives and each has had the fit and finish of a mic-tech.

Well, damnit, now I want a 4" EX-01 tanto.

I am a fan of ZT and I can back the lionsteel sr1 recommendation. It's a fantastic knife, under rated imo.

I echo the Spyderco Tuff. As far as I know, it is only one of two folders ever made with cpm 3v (the other being a "Monkey Edge" Strider). For the price, it is a no brainer. CPM 3V is not stainless, of course, but it is not nearly as rust prone as common carbon steels. With some basic care, you won't have a problem. You want a tough folder with super strong steel, then the Tuff is worth looking at.

I have to echo LionSteel SR-1 with a 3.7". It's super tough made from one piece of either tiranium or aluminum. The tiranium one approaches Satu pricing. Made in Italy.

Also, echo Hogue EX-01, EX-02 and EX-04 since I have those. You get a variety blade shapes and all made in U.S. EX-01 and EX-04 are button lock and you can go with 3.5" or 4" blade lengths. EX-02 is liner lock with either thumb stud or flipper opening and you'll probably go with the 3.75" blade.

Tuff is very well made in Taiwan. Tough beast but not the smoothest.

I agree even with a made in the USA stamp on the blade there is somthing along the way that wasn't an American product involved, however I'll still take that over made in China stamped on it.

Hogue exo1, any large benchmade, flipper, adamas, rift, contego . Can't go wrong with the axis lock. I really like the benchmade flipper. If you look a little bit you could get the EX01 and the flipper for 300.

why change?

This one...the Spyderco TUFF in CPM-3V. I've had two of these. The designer said he figured it to be a "folding fixed blade."
My second one could be opened with one hand; the first one took both hands. Great knife; WONDERFUL steel.
You can check around for the best price. I see them on the Exchange quite often for $200 as-new.

Man I've really been wanting to check that knife out. Looks awesome and tough as hell

Southern grind bad monkey might also be one to look at for the price and you can get them from USAblade with or without the wave feature. Also theres a few things from brous blades like the T4 tanium, If you can find a triple threat folder for a good deal that might be a good one.

How about a spa treatment? Get a new scale and back spacer made. Zero Tolerance replaces blades for $30, so long as the knife is not a limited edition.

I have an 0301 that I've been carrying for a few years, but the 0561 gets carried more these days. So as others I would recommend that or the slightly smaller 0562.
