So i have decided to get a plain edge Zt 0350 (thank you everyone on the forums for the help) and i can't decide whether or not to get the all black version or the blackwash version. I own a Kershaw leek with blackwash blade and i love it. But the 0350's blackwash looks different. I love the blackwash cause the scratches blend in perfectly. I have a zt 0620 and the scratches on it drives me crazy. Does anyone know if it looks the same as the leek or if it's different? Every picture i see of it seems different. Sometimes it looks nice and other times it looks more satin than black.

The all black version is a black as a tuxedo, I don't know if that's satin but it sure is black. As in, no light reflecting from anywhere except the edge. I haven't scraped mine yet

So pretty much Zt uses the same dlc and same black wash as kershaw? I know they're under KAI but do they use the same technique for their coatings?

The blackwash on a ZT blade is slightly different than on a kershaw, a leek for example has a black oxide coating applied before it is distressed, the 0350's black coating is a distressed PVD. I'd get the blackwash, I have the original black 0350 and the DLC coating has held up admirably for the amount of abuse it has been given, but there are a few areas where the coating has developed a different sheen, it bothers me enough to mention it and recommend the blackwash.

This very knife is on my list. It will probably end up being an Xmas gift to myself later this year. Grab that blackwash!

IMG_1543.JPG Here's a pic of mine...it's held up well with light use over a couple of years. I have the tiger stripe version also but really haven't used that one much so can't speculate on that finish.

I had a black 0350 for some years and the DLC coating held very well
No issues with paper, cardboard, woods or similar materials.
I only got one mark when i touched some nail in a peace of wood.

I am partial to blackwask by ZT, I have a 0801BW that looks great... if you will really use your knife hard the BW can be better
For a standard EDC use the black DLC looks classier and will perfectly support this kind of use

I still have a M390 stonewashed version that i would dream to be blackwash ;)

The plain black looks amazing and i love it. My one thing is i take it to work when i do work and i have to strip thick wire (about 3 inches thick with a quarter inch rubber around it. Too thick for wire strippers) and the wire scratches the blade. I use it to cut through rough materials. The stuff would be out of normal for normal edc and a satin fixed blade would probably be better suited but I'll probably never carry a fixed blade. The blackwash will hide the scratches a lot more from the rough work but i absolutely love the plain black for edc. Looks classier to me. I'll most likely pick up both but im a little tight on money and need help choosing which one to get first. So far im leaning towards blackwash but theres that little doubt in the back of my mind whether or not its the right call

voted DLC, always thought blackwash was ugly.

You have to decide which one you think looks nicer.

Generally, I'm not a fan of black coated blades.

I've had both DLC and blackwash from ZT. The DLC was on a 350, the BW on a 566. I prefer the BW for it's ability to hide wear marks. My first choice would always be an uncoated, stonewashed blade, BW second if I wanted to hide the wear on a blade.
