I purchased a 0452 CF from knife center and it is 8 grams light of spec. Knife Center is an authorized dealer so it seems unlikely it is a clone . Any thoughts

It's about a 6% discrepancy. Probably explained by slight variations in machining and grinding from knife to knife. It's also possible your scale is very slightly off. Or a combination of the two.

I'm sure it's probably fine. It's not the first time I've hear of knives being different spec from what the official website described.

I checked the scale

Do you think that is out of spec for a ZT production knife. I checked the scale and its on. All my other blades are right on ... Thanks

I'm sure it's fine and you aure worrying about nothing. Knife Center didn't send you a fake knife.

You purchased a production knife. Chris Reeve had every handle tested on his knives because he knew that things can change in manufacturing. ZT doesn't go to that extent, so a couple things may be slightly out of spec and it threw the weight off some. If weight difference is the only thing that doesn't measure up on you knife, then I doubt you have a fake. If it still weighs on your mind, I recommend calling or emailing ZT.

For th OP. Just curious. Did you have reason the believe the knife you received might be counterfeit or were you verifying all the specs just for piece of mind? If so was everything else exact?

If my math is correct, .281 ounces or slightly less than 1/3 of an ounce.

Then I would agree that weighing a knife is not a good way to determine if it's legit.
Only ZT will know if it's within spec, I'd go out on a limb and say it's good to go.

weight is not a reliable measure for the authenticity of a knife

I've gotten Spydercos with a 3-5 grams variation from specs, and Cold Steels that weighed up to 11 grams above or below the stated specs. I don't know if that's common from ZT, but from other brands is a frequent thing

I saw an unbelievable clone and got concerned
