Hey BF, I've recently purchased a brand new 0452cf and I'm incredibly satisfied with the knife! It flips so fast that you'd think it was assisted haha. I have a question to all other 0452cf owners out there about the detent however, do any of you notice the detent leaving a mark on the part of the knife that it comes in contact with, and if so, is this something that I should try and adjust to prevent from happening or is it just something that's no big deal.

Are you talking about just a curved line where the detent ball slides along the blade while it is opening or more of wear just on the edge of the detent hole on the blade?

you mean the circular trail mark due to the detent contacting with the blade?

that's inevitable, no issue at all

I'm talking about the curved line where the detent ball slides along the blade, sorry if i wasn't entirely clear, I guess when I look closer there appears to be a slight amount of wear on the detent hole on the blade as well but nothing really extreme that I wouldn't expect given the strength of the detent

I don't have a 452 but do have an 801 and a 560 and a bunch of other folding knives with detent systems. Neither of my ZTs show significant detent wear on the blade.

I have a KAI Leek that shows a dent line on the blade and it's brand new and flipped maybe 30 times.

A couple of my Spyderco's show a detent line on the blade. Some knives you can't see since the area of the detent mark is not visible.

So...some detent wear marking is normal and to be expected.

Mike

Thanks a lot everyone! You've definitely cleared this up for me, I'll take your advice and continue to flip to my hearts content!:)

Hey op, enjoy that knife. I just bought one myself and absolutely love it.
Don't give that detent a second thought.

Once that line AKA the track gets even more worn and polished it will just get even smoother to flip and close. Embrace the detent track! :)

That detent trail on the blade is going to be on any blade with a detent ball, not just flippers. It can be a bit more visible on frame locks because there isn't a solid handle scale.

I think the 0452cf may have raised concerns because in the majority of knives I have owned the detent hole as well as its track are pretty well hidden by the bolster area even when fully deployed. Some designs such as the 0452 are nearly impossible to completly hide the track and sometimes on recent ZT knives the detent hole itself can peak out a bit. Detent tracks and visible holes bothered me. But I have been able to forgive the minor cosmetic detail as long as the rest of the knife is up to par. That being said the visible hole and track on my ZT's dont bother me at all now.

Glad your question got answered! The 452CF seems to be the most popular ZT right now and for good reason. Flip it, use it and enjoy it for life!
