ZT 0550 can't decide!

I polised my Gen 1 ti grips to a mirror polish and they look and feel awesome.

But I tend to back pocket carry the 0560 more because i wear jeans and the knive is so thin.

That said. I like both equally and i do not not think i could have polished out teh cutout on the gen 2 ti handle like I did on the flat surfaced gen 1.

Only the 0551 and a select few 0550 factory screw ups are elmax. The rest of the gen 1s are all s35vn.

My first Gen 1 is serial number 0422. I guess I lucked out with the Elmax blade. Like I said, I prefer it over S35VN.

This may seem like a stupid question given the level of detail discussed in this thread, but the 550 is thumb opening right? There isn't a version that's a flipper? I just wanted to check because sometimes they make both varieties in the same size, at least Hinderer himself does. If it were a flipper I'd get the 550 today, but the flipper is just more... fun.

I think all my kershaws are A/O, I wanted to try the manual. The Gen 2 will be strictly user and a blem, I want to maybe get out of an elevator some day.

The 0550 is thumb stud only. The soon-to-be-released 0556 is a scaled down version of the 0560, which has a flipper. The 0566 will have a steel frame lock instead of Ti, G-10 A/O and stonewashed Elmax. You can find more info here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...OK-ZT-0566-(or-so-you-wanted-a-smaller-0560-)

Thanks. Yeah, I have one pre-ordered at BHQ. :) I was pretty sure there was never a flipper version of the 550 released, but you never know. I have a 561 and it's great, although it could stand to have a stronger detente. I think they had so much negative feedback about the strong detente that they went a little the other way for a few. Some might prefer it this way because it makes the thumb stud more usable.

Imo the 0560 is the most amazing knife zt makes. The complaints are 99% BS created by whiners that are actually working to find things to complain about. "My detent is too strong" "my detent is too soft" "omg a titanium framelock develops stick until broken in and I am too stubborn to do the sharpie trick and fix it"... The nicer knife you make the more bs complaints appear to arise. I have both a 560, and a 561 and they are my most loved knives. One is always in my pocket.
Lol,you forgot the texture is too aggressive, omg the jimping is too sharp. Best damn knife I've ever owned! I'd say 99.9% BS.

Love my 0550 1st gen:

Little more blade than the 0350, narrower handle, and about te same weight. Also the jimping is on the blade instead of the handle. I actually like the jimping on the 0350 better. However I like the way the the 0550 opens and that I get more blade at the same overall length and weight.

For it to be the best knife possible it would need to be waved. I've seen a waved 561, actually. Might be worth giving up the warranty. The ergonomics are phenomenal, and if you have middling to large hands it would be close to unbeatable. Even with my small hands it feels pretty comfortable no matter where I hold it. But I think, as good as it is, that Spyderco flipper that we shall not name is at least as good. They're different knives, with different design purposes, so not really comparable. And for a biggish knife it's hard to beat. Really looking forward to the 566. Hope they jimp the heck out of it.
