I tried a search but I guess I'm challenged in that area. So, if this is redundant, please point me in the right direction.

I just bought a new ZT 0550 and the framelock bar looks different from those I've seen in posted photos. There is now what appears to be a steel insert where the bar meets with the blade that is mounted with a T6 attachment screw on the bar. It looks like the overtravel adjustment for the lockbar.

Is this something new or have I just missed an upgrade to the design? Also wondering if this was done to allow adjustment of the detent force or something else.

And, no. I have no way to post photos.

It's new, they have also been added to the 0300s too.

How about the 560 series ?
Will they be added to those ?

And does anyone know if the 562 will have the insert ?

Sorry to ask, but I don't follow ZT much, but have thought about picking up one of those models.

The new 560s already have them. I have a 0560BW with it, and I've seen 0561s and 0560s with them as well.

AFAIK all of ZT's current titanium frame locks have a stainless lock bar insert, including the 0620(s) and 0562(s). :)

Except the 550BW :/ I contacted BHQ and none of theirs have them. Too bad, I would have bought another.

I've been fiddling around with mine. Seems to me the only thing the T8 (not T6) screw is for is to hold the insert in place and probably to facilitate repairs. I loosened it and tightened it and didn't see that it did anything for adjusting anything.

The 0550 came tight. As in not just hard to open with the blade stop/thumb stud but impossible to open that way. It was even stiff to open using two hands. I made a few passes on the detent ball with a steel nail file and it can now be opened with my thumb but not easily. I'm guessing it will now wear in with use.

Good knife. I've been looking for a new heavier duty knife as a second knife to my standard stockman slipjoint. This will do nicely. I may have to seriously look at other ZT models for the collection.

Anyone have pics of these new 0550's??

Found this on Instagram ... they are calling it the "Gen 3" .... ?

Cool, I can sent in my beat up 0551 and possibly have them add one of these. The lockbar slips a bit on that one.

Would be cool. My second gen 2 sticks very slightly, and without sharpie it sticks horrendously.

Would love to get my titanium side replaced with the steel insert.

0801's have them. =)

Lock rock , Lock stick, Lock bar traveling 100%

Yikes, is this widespeed? My 0550 blem has been fantastic... no lock rock, no lock stick, butter smooth, and zero blade play in any direction. Lock bar is probably at 40%. This knife single handily turned me into a ZT fan after having a bad experience the 0301... it would be a shame if my 0550 developed problems.

Not sure. The first 0551 I got had some severe lock rock, but I carried and used it anyway. It's much worse now after about 3 years. I love the knife, so I bought another. I have a 0550 and a 0550BLK and they are both good. The lock bar cutout being on the outside brought changes and improved finish in subsequent models (better fit). I have a couple 303 and a 301BW; both of these are absolutely the most solid knives I have. No wiggle or movement in any direction when open and locked up, also one of my favorite Onion designs.

My 551 has developed mild lock rock with moderate use twice. I sent it in to have this corrected and the problem recurred rather quickly with only moderately hard use. i think an insert on the lockbar might solve this problem. The knife is still functional, but I wish the lock up was solid.
