ZT 0550 S35VN Edge Retention Test

I love that you manned-up and presented an honest (glowing!) review, even though the result was contrary to what you anticipated. Even though it should be, this is far from common on the internet.

Well done.

Did you do anymore testing on the Elmax btw? Any plans to?

Yep Gundude73 graciously sent me a ZT 0350 with a composite ELMAX blade for testing.

And thanks for the kind words. I will present the truth, no matter how it makes me look. :)

Thank you for the continued testing. I was just researching the S35VN debate yesterday and wondered how the 550 stacked up. I am still scratching my head over the difficulties other S35VN blades had.

Me too. Could have been me, could have been the thin blades, could have been the rope, could have been the hardness, could have been the edge geometry......... The list goes on and on.

I honestly have no clue what was causing it, but I can tell you that my Sebenza performs very well in real world use. It just fails miserably at the rope test. Haha

So by a toothier edge. Would you say finish the edge off at around 1500 grit or maybe a little higher? By the way, how long have you been sharpening? I need to get better at my freehand. I can put an working edge on by hand. Nice video. I am going to head over and subscribe right now.
