Then, what sets a 0550/ELMAX and 0551/ELMAX apart? We're all trying to learn.

The 550/Elmax was a mistake. IIRC some 550's had Elmax blades; the info was in this forum last year.

Thanks for all the info. No definitive numbers but both 0551/ELMAX and 0550/ELMAX are low count.

I have both a 0550/S35VN Gen 1 (Ser. 1927) and 0551/ELMAX (Ser. 1070). Of course, the blades are different but also on the 0551 the ridges on the G10 scales go vertically. I find the vertical ridges much more comfortable.

I also have a 0550/S35VN Gen 2 (Ser. 4116) one in Stonewash Plain and another 0550BLK/S35VN Gen 2 (Ser. 0256).

Four of the 055x folders may not be enough.

My favorite of all ZT folders. I'd like to see a 0550CBCF one day. Soon...
