Hi, I just bought a zt 0550blk, and I scratched the coating on day one. I really want the bw blade but I don't want to buy a whole new knife. Does anyone know where I can get just a new blade or have my blade professionally recoated?

Most coated blades will show signs of wear if you use them. The only way to keep a coated blade pristine is if you don't use it. Go for the stonewash manufacturers are using if you want to reduce signs of use but again, if you use your knife it will show signs of use.

DLC is pretty tough. Are you sure you scratched it, or is it just residue from whatever you were cutting? You might check out this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1111168-How-do-you-remove-marks-on-DLC

Getting it re-coated may cost as much as buying another knife. You could try contacting ZT warranty about blade replacement. But since that model has been discontinued, they may not have replacement blades for it anymore.

As craytab said, though, if you use it, you will eventually scratch it.

Just use it and enjoy the hell out of it! The 0550BLK is a great knife. Congrats, man.

If you are going to worry about scratching a blade then you probably have the wrong hobby. All blades can and will scratch if you use them, lol

The black washed blade is the blade you have stonewashed after coating. Maybe you can do the "dryer tumble" on it or send it out for stone washing. But I think you should just use and enjoy that awesome knife you have. One of the best, maybe the best, knife ZT has made so far IMO!

You could just trade it for a Spyderco Para 2 with DLC
That seems to hold up very well unless you start cutting open bags of sand with it.
still . . .
other than for looks . . .
the coating sucks;doesn't lessen cutting friction. For example i just cut up an apple with my new DLC and it squeaked and dragged so bad I would reach for a different knife for food prep.

stilllllllllll . . . they ARE pretty !

After reading that I had to look it up to see what I was missing.
Has DLC on it already

Dude . . . you scratched a DLC ? ? ?
What a dud :):):)
Kidding

Hopefully the windex thing will clean off any material making it look like a scratch.
I have my fingers crossed for you.

Yeah, kind of hard to believe you scratched DLC that badly

Mine has held up to much use and looks pristine...

but I am with those who say that every knife that sees use will show wear sooner or later!

I doubt you are going to find just a blackwash blade to replace it. As a couple others have said, since this model has been discontinued ZT probably does not have a replacement blade for you. My suggestion is use it really hard and scratch is so much that it looks like a blackwash blade:D
