zt 0560 new flagship?

You may be right on the price issue. However, AO is very polarizing and that will prevent some from buying it. Not having a Titanium lock is another polarizing issue. I am not saying that it won't be popular but I think it will probably compete more with the 0350 more than the 0550/0560/0561.
The 0566 can be de-assisted because it's got a detent hole. ZT did that on purpose and it's the same for the 0801 and the 0770.

I would've preferred a 0566 as a more scaled down version of the 0560/0561 with the exact same features.

560 has better steel than the 301. Heck, the 550 has better steel than the 301. But for some reason, the 301 spends more time in my pocket and gets more use for the past few months than either of those other two. The 550 probably gets used second most of the three. The 560 is definitely third in my book, and spends most of its time in a drawer. To me, about the only thing it has really going for it is the steel. I like the ergonomics of the grip of the 301 better, I like the way the blade cuts on the 301 better, even though it is only S30V, I like the assisted opening of the 301 better, I like the weight of the 301 better. About the only thing that 301 doesn't have that I would prefer it did is a ball detent in the blade. Which isn't that big a deal to me, really.

Is the 560 becoming the flagship? Maybe. But if anyone doesn't have a 301, they are missing out, IMHO.

I think the 030X will still remain iconic though, even if the 0560 takes over. It was THE ZT folder back in the day, and still a dear knife to many.

It is nice to have the option, I just think the 0566 would be one of the best sellers for ZT ever if it were titanium and on bearings instead of the AO. BTW, the upcoming 0801 is not assisted as far as I have read.

So can the 0350, so that, plus the price makes it better competition with the 0350. Not the 0550, 0560, etc.

This conversation obviously changes based on your definition of what "Flagship product" means.

"Core product or flagship product are a company's products which are most directly related to their core competencies."

In my eyes, ZT's flagship product is the ZT030x series of knives. Why? Take a look at the knife, it pretty much defines Zero Tolerance:
- Overbuilt
- Heavy
- Meant for hard use
- Large thumb stud
- Speed safe opener
- Aggressive G10 / Titanium liner
- DLC coating

They even make a model that is designed to act the same but is 10% smaller.

The 560/561 series is unique. It opens on ball bearings, and I think it is the only knife they sell with that system. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome knife. But besides being well-built and expertly designed, the ZT561 I have has pretty much nothing in common with other ZT's.

i think the 560 is the flag ship if they would make an elmax version of the 300 id buy it in a heartbeat it is a great great blade steel in my line of work s30 doesnt last a day. d2 maybe 2 days s35 2-3 days elmax easily all 5 working days

i had both the 300 and 350 and sold both. the recurve blade never did it for me...I have a 0560 and love it.

I would agree a flagship model embodies the best the company would have to offer (in a regular production model). Seems to me, the new offerings of ZT are taking the company in a new direction, diversifying its product line. If we are talking about a folder for the military/LEO, its either 030x or 0200. IMO, the 56x and newer offerings are geared towards civilian use. The 30x series is the iconic staple and the 56x series is the current flagship. Then there is the 0777, a limited run godess. It stands by itself.

There's also the new 0360.SKD which is basically a 0350 but with a different blade:

you are right. The 0801 is supposed to be KVT.

I believe the 0350 and all its variants is the best seller in volume for ZT, so you would have to take that into consideration.

Yes you are correct, 0801 has KVT.

The more I think about it, not all companies have flagship models, 'cept car companies. Who are we to self impose what the flagship model is. We all have our personal favorites, it should be good enough except for maybe "your favorite ZT" thread. Just my $.02.
