Hey, so I have a zt 0560 that has the steel lock bar insert (newest generation), and when I push semi hard, or have grip on the knife squeezing really tight, I can here lock bar slipping to further percentage (sounds like a popping sound/cracking your knuckles sound lol) which sounds/feels weird and also when I flip the knife a lot I get lock stick.... Anybody else get this? The without any force on it, is about 40-50% lock up (the steel lock bar insert is fully engaged)? Is this an issue, should I sent it to ZT to get it fixed? When I first got the knife, it was insanely stiff it couldn't even be deployed with the thumb studs what so ever, but has broken in over time. I am just comparing how the lock acts to the ZT 0301 that I have that never gets lock stick etc.

Thanks,

Gideon

Try to tighten the pivot a bit. At least that is how some folks fixed this issue. But yes, if you squeeze hard, the lockbar can move somewhat further to the presentation side and make it difficult to unlock, especially when the pivot screw is loose.

That helped with the lockbar moving thanks :) But, the lockbar is still sticking terribly.

I wouldn't tighten anything.

I can move my 0561 (pre-lock insert) lock by applying "semi hard" pressure or by gripping it a certain way. I can hear it grind when I do it as well.

50% lockup isn't an issue. So far I haven't heard anything abnormal. Seriously, is there a problem with the knife, or are you just saying you can move your lockbar further in if you push it?

A couple of suggested solutions
:
* Don't push on the lockbar when the knife is open.
• Learn to grip the knife to where you don't put so much pressure on the lockbar.

EDIT: Is this a new knife? If so, let it break in for a while. The lock stick will probably go away for the most part.

I mean, slightly tightening in fixed the one probably, but without even gripping the knife and not putting ANY force on the lock bar, trying to close it is extremely difficult. My thumb has lost skin because it is so difficult to disengage. So can you tell me if that is normal? Does your knife stick like that?

EDIT: This knife is a few months old. Also, I just opened it and it will not close at all. Here is a picture of the knife: http://puu.sh/nqaSu/caf21b5742.png

did you try the pencil trick? rub the granite on the lockbar insert face and the tang might help reduce the sticky lock.

Echoil - tere was a long thread about over-traveling lockbar of zt0452cf and tightening the pivot screw was the solution proposed by some folks and confirmed by several others.

Gideons - I dont mean to suspect that you dont know how to disengage the lock, but when I first got the 0561 I also found it difficult to unlock the blade. Later I realized it was largely because my thumb and index finger were too far away from the pivot area. Try to move you hand a bit more forward until your middle finger is right aligned to the lockbar face part.

Holy crap, that worked amazing! The pencil thing ( and I got some leverage and was able to close the knife my thumb took a beating though) Any long term fixes though?

My hypothesis was always that the steel lock bar insert heated up when I kept flipping open and closing maybe 5 times in a wrong and the heat caused friction thus lock bar stick. That Pencil trick worked like a charm :O

not sure if it is long term, but pencils are inexpensive and the trick is easy and less time consuming. Glad it worked for you.
