Hope all is well.

I have a ZT 0561 that has terrible centering. I have put a custom scale on it after I received it. I'm going to send it back to ZT to see if they can fix the centering issue but am not sure if I should take off the custom scale first and put the stock one on. Any feedback would be appreciated. I look forward to your comments.

Yes - I would try to put the stock scale back to see if that brings the blade back to the center. If yes, then it is not a warranty issue, but more of a custom scale issue.

Edit: bad read on me. I now see the 0561 came to you with an off centered blade (even before you put on the custom scale). Yes - agree with the poster below.

I can't speak from personal experience because I never had to send anything in for warranty work, but I'd probably take it off just in case. Not so much because I'd be worried they wouldn't work on it, but because there may be a chance the scale happens to get lost in some unforeseen way.

Accidents happen, especially at big manufacturing plants. It wouldn't take more than 2 minutes to get the scale off so I'd just stick the old one back on. You could always put the carbon fiber scale back on when it gets back to you.

Ok. Sounds good. I just wasn't sure if they wouldn't work on it since I put a custom scale on it.

You might call them and ask if you could send it in with the custom scale, and include the original separately (although they may lose it in the process). If you know it was poorly centered originally, they should take it into consideration. If the custom scale is from a legit maker, then hopefully they'd be ok with it...

I'm super positive they would. KAI has a killer warranty concerning Zero Tolerances. It'd be different if you installed something a little more sophisticated like messing with their KVT system. A custom scale doesn't really affect the integrity of the design. That being said, I'd still recommend replacing the original scale. I just think it'll make things a little smoother.

I sent a 560 in with rival scale and they sent it back no problem. This was with the last month. My issue wasn't centering though.

For sure send it back 100% stock.

If they decide to replace it they won't move the scale to a new knife. If it gets damaged or lost they'll not have another one of the custom scales to send out.
