I was watching a review of the 0562 on youtube and the guy was saying these decorative pivots have a tendency to come loose. Has anyone experienced this?

Well if a guy on youtube said it, it must be true...

It happens. My 0561 and 0801 have been fine, my 0770CF had a screwy pivot but blue loctite fixed that.

Thanks so I guess it would be more credible if a random guy posted it on baldeforums

I haven't had the pivot come loose on either of my 562s. Even if they do, it isn't uncommon with folders and is easily fixed with a drop of locktite. The stop pin is loose on one of mine and it took me forever to figure out what the rattling was, but it doesn't affect the knife in any way. If you are on the fence about getting a 562 because of worries about a loose pivot, I suggest getting one. It is IMO one of the finest production folders ever made, and ZT has possibly the best fit and finish, warranty, and customer support of any production company out there, and I say that as a guy that is probably a bigger fan of Spyderco than ZT (by a hair).

Funny. I watched the same review last night and was curious how many people experienced the issue. Hearing things on YouTube causes a curiosity that I like to explore by getting a larger pool of opinions on.

It's my day off, and my local shop has 0562s in stock. Going to go handle one :)

Only knife I owned that had this happen was my xm18 and a touch of blue locktite took care of it immediately.

No biggie

I can second this. I've had it happen on a few XMs as well. If it can happen with high quality knives as Hinderers, it really shows it is not a big deal and easily fixed as mentioned.

I've also had it happen on a few different knives. As others have mentioned, a little blue Loctite will fix the issue.

I watched the same video. He mentions using locktite to solve the issue. He fully admits a love/hate relationship with ZT knives.
I also watched his review of the Spyderco PM2, which he raved about. So he may indeed be a bit biased towards Spyderco.

Hey - is that a crack about my bald(e) spot? :D

I think some knives are more prone to the pivot coming loose than others, but I also think that nearly all of the problems can be solved by getting the pivot "tuned" in to the right tightness and using blue loctite to keep it in place.

I have to loctite the bolts on my dirt bikes and on old Harleys, because vibration tends to make them work loose.

Try that - be VERY sparing , a little dab will do, and let it set up overnight before using the knife again.

Don't use red loctite, it is not designed to use where you will have to disassemble the components in the future.

I've never had a pivot that would stay tight without (removable) Loctite, a tiny amount on clean threads.

I cannot imagine an emergency use folder that didn't have its' pivot Loctited in place.

In my experience the pivot screws with larger heads do tend to loosen up especially when there is force being applied. My Blur did it and the 0777 I got in a passaround did it as well. It's really no big deal just hit the threads with some blue loctite, adjust the pivot where you want it, and you're good to go.

This DID happen to me, after I was using the knife hard. I was cutting a cat door entrance into my laundry room door (hollow plastic material door) and was using my 0562 and some brute force to cut through the thick material. When I got it all installed, I noticed that the pivot was loose. Got my allen keys and tightened it back up. Haven't had an issue. As for the blade? That M390 was still pretty sharp even after cutting through the door. Couple of passes on the fines and then ultrafines on my Sharpmaker and it was back to shaving sharp.

My 0562 has a really tight fit on the pivot sleve through the frame and scale, so it doesn't spin even if I tighten the pivot down with two torx bits in both sides and cranking it down as far as I can, I can still unscrew the pivot with only one wrench, so I doubt the pivot will come loose with just the friction of the blade opening and closing with even harder use. I'm not sure if that's a feature on all of the newer ones, or if mine is just an outlier, but my serial number is 1565 so if anyone with one close to mine wants to test this out, I'm curious.

I think the pivot will get loose at some point.. I had 2 562 cf.. I use one very hard and the other is brand new (serial 33) the pivot get a bit loose.. but then again I did open the pivot a few times to sharpen and clean the blade.. while other time to lube the bearing... so in my case
..could be my fault for opening the pivot too often.. added a bit of blue lockitite... and hasn't move.. (added more locktite every time I open the pivot)

Marginally.

One thing many people forget, getting lots of views opens the doorway to the possibility of making money on YouTube. It is in their best interest to post controversial topics/click bait.

As for the "decorative pivots" I have not had any issues with any of mine. Functionally they are not really any different than the standard hardware, so they shouldn't be any more prone to issues. If anything they may have more surface area making contact with the scales than standard hardware, so they should be less likely to come undone.
