I'm debating between these two knives. Which would you guys say is more solid, smoother, and has a better cutting geometry? Also, what do you prefer, s35vn or Elmax?
Thanks, guys!

The street price of the Socom Delta looks to be about $100 more than the street price for the 0562 . . . assuming you can find a Socom Delta in stock, that is.

Oh, I know there's a price jump, I'm just curious which one you guys would rather carry.

One plus with the ZT is it doesn't use the proprietary screws, and their customer service is great if you ever need to send it in for repair. The Microtech is sweet though.

562 by far. Owned a socom. Cool knife but paying a lot more and not gaining anything

0562 and its not even close.

Just based on being able to take it down and not having to deal with Microtech's legendarily crappy customer service/warranty.

This is what I was thinking. I love ZT, and use one quite often.

The 562. And it's NOT even close.

I've always been a Protech fan over Microtech anyway. Between the proprietary fasteners, overpricing, the handles and, frankly, and their recent naming schemes, I won't own another one for a while.

Oh please, ZT hands down. The quality, materials and price ZT has, MT doesn't even come close. MT doesn't deserve to be compared to ZT period.

I love ZT, and they definitely beat out Microtech on many fronts. But no one here can deny, that the heat treat Microtech does beats out almost all other production manufacturers. I own a ZT0560 and a Socom Delta myself, and I can say that as far as the knives themselves I prefer the Microtech. The design is slimmer and the Tanto is a nice touch. I won't say Micro tech has better customer service, because ZT has possibly the best. But if edge holding is your priority, then watch some Microtech cut tests and you'll see just how good they are in that department.

P.S. As a famous philosopher once said...just buy both.

I have never handled the 0562, but I have owned a few ZT knives and I've handled many more. The Socom Delta in clip point S30v (thanks apiest) is the smoothest knife I have handled, and its lockup is perfect. You can find it on a bunch of random steels including CTS-p204, D2, S30v, S35vn, Elmax, and ATS-34. The tanto version, which I used to own, is a pretty chunky blade, but the clip point is very thin behind the edge, and it has great geometry. So if you can find one in clip point, get it without hesitation, because it may be your only chance till Microtech starts making them again. If you only find the tanto, then I would get the ZT.

Why hasn't anybody mentioned the 0562CF with the M390 blade? I used the crap out of mine yesterday and it holds an edge really well. It will cost a little more than the G10/Elmax one, but it is well worth it.

I own both and both are great...can't go wrong with either. I prefer the MT. I actually like the proprietary screws as they look awesome IMHO. The downside as others mentioned is the fact that they are proprietary, but bits are readily available for $25 or so. It all comes down to which you prefer. The ZT is smooth in opening, but not as smooth as the Delta (or the Elite, for that matter). Plus, I prefer the MT tanto grind....it's very well done.

Not meant for the same tasks IMHO. I have both and the MT is for self defense and the 0562 is a utility EDC. Both are great knives.

I know which one my wallet would prefer I carry. ;) Other than aesthetics, is there anything the Microtech can do that the ZT cannot? And while I could be dead wrong, I'm guessing that an 0562's blade will penetrate flesh just fine.

To my way of thinking, ZT offers a whole lot of bang for the buck . . . if you can handle the weight. (I'm already overbuilt. I don't need my knives to be. ;) )

I've got a Socom Delta Zombie tanto in Elmax, and I really like it. Elmax sharpens really well and holds the edge for quite a long time.
I'm also waiting for Microtech to get it together and release more Socom's with the clip point blade. Gonna snap one of them up too. :D

It also depends on your opening and blade length preferences... If you want a flipper with a 3.5" blade (ZT), or a manual with a 4" blade (MT).

I have both (0562CF and a Delta TE in CTS-204P) and while I enjoy both, they just aren't two knives I would directly compare for some reason. They're pretty vastly different in size and construction, and unless you can find one of the original runs in CTS-204P, they will differ significantly in steel type as well.

Purely out of convenience, I would go with the 0562 because the chances of you finding the Socom Delta configuration you want is extremely low.
