Zt 0562 vs Microtech Socom Delta?

Have both as well and I will have to say for an EDC the ZT would be my choice for a bunch of reasons which have been mentioned above. Not to say that the Microtech is a bad choice either, ultimately they are both good choices.

I know which one my wallet would prefer I carry. ;) Other than aesthetics, is there anything the Microtech can do that the ZT cannot? And while I could be dead wrong, I'm guessing that an 0562's blade will penetrate flesh just fine.

To my way of thinking, ZT offers a whole lot of bang for the buck . . . if you can handle the weight. (I'm already overbuilt. I don't need my knives to be. ;) )

I LOL'd

Thx. :) Sad but true, I'm afraid. But I'm on the right track. I just got done losing 40 pounds. I've got another 45 to go.

Well then, congrats are in order. It can be a hard thing to overcome for most folks.

If you can find one, I would go with Socom Elite.
But Socom Elite/delta is all about tactical purpose of use. Even though it can be considered as a large EDC knife, it is more biased towards "fighting" part of POU. On the other hand, ZT is tactical looking EDC knife that can be carried ...... well, as an EDC knife.
I missed my chance of getting CTS-204P version of Socom Delta so I had to settle with S30V and ATS-34. Socom Elite, I have two S35VNs. Zombie Tech Socom Delta is great with Elmax steel but where can you actually carry the blood splattered pattern blade?

One thing I can't get over with ZT is their heat treat and grind treat on Elmax steel or CPM steels they use. No matter what you buy from them, I have 0300bw and 0560bw, their heat treat is close to terrible. Only M390 steel ZT uses comes out decently heat treated (maybe due to high temperature tolerance/heat treat characteristic of M390, which prevents it to overheat during belt grinding sharpening phase at ZT/Kershaw). I shouldn't expect too much from a production knife but ....... that extra $100 on Microtech shows just how well production knife can have properly heat treated blade. I truly believe extra $100 for properly heat treated blade is Worth While.

Sorry for rambling but I would go with Socom Delta (if you can find one) if it is for your B.O.B. or tactical use; EDC use, I would definitely take ZT and work on that edge quite a bit.

+1 for the zt 0562cf. I posted a pic of mine with three of the top flippers you can get in the 0562 thread. The 0562 holds it's own for quality, action and price. I'm not a microtech fan.... So my vote is for the zt.

I'm also pretty sure the 0562 can go right through someone in a defense situation.

I'm sorry, what? Please don't speak in an authoritative way as though you are speaking factually. ZT DID have some heat treat issues on their early Elmax blades. But that was years ago now. Today, their Elmax steels are spot on, and their heat treats are great. So, please do some more research before you speak in a matter of fact way about things that aren't true. There's enough bad or misinformation on the Internet as is, thanks.

My on topic answer would be the ZT. Just a really busy design on the SOCOM, and frankly I usually don't carry a knife for self-defense so Microtech's products have never attracted or impressed me. Self defense? I carry a gun for that. On those rare days when I go places I don't carry my firearm to, I tend to carry one of my full serrated Spydercos. I have only had my ZT 0562CF for a few days now, but it is an amazing knife, and I love everything about it.

+1

ZT has definitely fixed any issues they may have had in the past with heat treating. My elmax 0562 has taken a beating so far and smiled back at me with no chips! Thats why I love the company, they recognize their faults and fix them accordingly. Not to mention the incredible customer service! I sent in a 0550 for a lock up issue and got it back in 2 weeks perfected. Couldnt be happier with it. So yeah, go with the 0562!

You can't go wrong with the current production ZT's. The Elmax steel is fantastic - mine takes a beating and holds an incredible edge. The only downside of the ZT, and it really isn't much of one, is the weight. The knife is solidly made and you can feel it. My 0566 is a fantastic knife, although it has too much heft to carry while wearing a suit, it fits the bill for all other functions.

Had two SOCOM Deltas, one tanto and one clip. Regret getting rid of both of them... Excellent folders for everyday use. Great design and execution. As far as proprietary screws go, there are people out there that make the bits you need. Customer service wise, I've sent two or three knives into MT and never had an issue getting repairs or maintenance done in a timely fashion. My only caveat is that the Delta is a little big for my liking, similar in size to the Spyderco Military.

No experience with the ZTs other than handling them in a store.

I should add to this discussion, that the Delta in clip point is a great slicer. The edge isn't thick, and you can sharpen it to have a wicked profile. I have owned the tanto also, but that blade shape didn't appeal to me, because it was thicker behind the edge, and it didn't have a blade shape that was practical in non-tactical situations.

Too bad mt doesn't use titanium over aluminum for their handles. They had g10 scales which I also think should have been carbon fiber;at least those materials would better justify their price on the delta models....
