Hi all, first post.

I purchased a ZT0562cf this week from the local Sportsman's Warehouse. They had one knife on display and another in a box that had not been opened yet. We opened the box and I handled that knife, but the detent was really weak on it so I ended up buying the one that had been on display (only issue I saw was a tiny chip in the edge from the small rocks in the display case, but I can easily sharpen that out).

After I got home, I realized the the serial number on the knife (in the 9000 range, which from my limited knowledge seems to match the timeframe when they were using CTS 204P) does not match the serial number on the box they gave me (in the 8500s).

I am not concerned about a fake or anything since it came from an authorized dealer, but would the mismatched numbers potentially be an issue if I decide to trade/sell the knife down the road? This is my first purchase over $150 so I am likely just worrying about nothing.

Hola! Welcome to the forum!

I would guess that the store simply got the boxes mixed. Shouldn't really be an issue for any potential buyers, but maybe check with the store and see if the other box matches the serial number of your knife.

If you had to do any warranty stuff, ZT would go off the blade. Most people probably ship the knife to them in a different box. They can’t assume you’d keep the original packaging.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Sounds like it's probably not worth driving back out there to try to swap boxes after all.

p.s. I freaking love this knife!

Yes, it does matter to some people. Would you be willing to sell that knife with that box and stand a chance of having to go through the headache of having to issue a refund and getting the knife back, hoping it's in the same condition as when you sent it ?
Welcome to BF !!!!! Hope you enjoy your stay.

You can sell it without the box and drop the price a little bit. Shouldn't be an issue. It will already be sold as used as you have a chip in it currently and require sharpening it. So don't see it selling at full bnib price anyway.
