OK. Let me read this quote to you:

"The Zero Tolerance 0562CF and the Kershaw 1870 are flipper folders with SpeedSafe opening mechanisms. This technology allows for fast opening. However, both folders come with printed instructions and illustrations that detail how they should be carried to avoid having the blades accidentally open. In short, the flipper folders each require that they be carried along the seam of a pocket - the photo shows a tight-fitting pair of jeans - and not in a waistband or a loose pocket. . . . If you buy either of these well-made folders, read the instructions and follow them."

And where did this quote come from? The last paragraph on page 54 of the May 2015 edition of Blade Magazine in an article entitled "Workin' Those Framelocks".

I know it takes awhile for articles to appear in Blade Magazine. Is it possible that the 0562CF was originally designed to be a SpeedSafe assisted knife and Blade Magazine received an early version of it to review?

ZTs #1 fanboy says it's more likely a 0566CF or someone is a dumbass. I can assure you that the 0562 was never going to be a speedsafe.

Yeah I read and was surprised by the same thing, not only did the article say the 562CF came with SpeedSafe, the writer also said, "Against instructions, I tried carrying both folders(ZT 562CF and Kershaw Knockout) in my waistband, and the blades opened accidentally."

If I remember right, the prototype version that was at SHOT in January 2014 was KVT. Even the ZT catalog released at around the same time listed the 0562 and 0562CF as KVT.

My guess is whoever wrote that particular article was just mistaken.

Ahhh, yes... 0566CF makes a lot more sense. That's why you're ZT's #1 fanboy, and I'm not. ;)

It's definitely not a 566CF pictured being used in the photos with in the article, it is with out any doubt, a 562CF. It makes me wonder how much these guys writing the articles actually know about the knives they're writing about.

Then someone must be a dumbass unless the 0566CF's knife blade is M390. That's what the article says the knife blade is made out of.

No, it's an 0562CF all right. How could the author have made that mistake? I might understand if he said he didn't read the literature. After all, I assume the 0562CF doesn't contain any instructions or warnings about SpeedSafe, does it? Then again, if ZT's literature is generic and all ZT knives contain instructions and warnings about SpeedSafe, maybe he just didn't know any better.

I believe every knife comes with the same instructions which includes speedsafe.

He could just be a dumbass. You wouldn't believe how many times there's a video of a nice bearing flipper on IG and people ask if it's assisted.

Very good, Scurvy. If that's the case, he just didn't know any better. What do you make of them apples?

It contains the standard ZT inf packet, it touches on all of ZT's features such as locks, opening methods, sharpening and maintenance, warranty info, etc. It does mention assisted-opening as well as KVT, it's just general info about the brand and was in all the ZT folders I own.

I think that answers it. BIG mistake on the author's part and interesting that no one at Blade Magazine caught it.

Wait, none of you guys' 562s are Speedsafe models? I think the value of mine just went up;)

Either that or he didn't do his homework. It's not like specs for the 0562CF are hard to find . . .

This much is certain. If were going to author an article for Blade Magazine, I'd darn well double-check and triple-check my facts before I let it go to print.

Ya know what would've sucked is if someone read that article and then NOT get the knife because they did not like assisted opening. Yikes. Thank goodness my 0562CF isn't speedsafe, but I knew that before I bought it.

Is this giving anyone else a red flag....?
