ZT 0562TI bearing question

I never could find a solid answer on this when I was searching for better bearings, for my 0562Ti.

Since the 0562 isn't listed on Skiff's bearing compatibility chart, I ended up going with Taco Bearings, and they've been great.

Both of my 0562Ti's are running on Taco Bearings. The Plain Jane 0562Ti is the smoothest bearing pivot knife I own,

while the laser engraved 0562Ti needs to be broken in some more.

Thanks for the reply. I emailed skiff and asked them about the size and if they had them and never heard back. I found the id and od dimensions but nothing on the skiff site matched up. So I did the same thing I ordered the taco bearings as well. The knife and the bearings will arrive next week. Hope you are well.

In the unlikely event you have any centering issues with the Taco Bearings, just email the owner, and he will send you a couple of extra hardened washers
of varying thickness, free of charge.

Unfortunately I didn’t have any centering issues but no matter what I did or how I adjusted or tightened or loosened the pivot after installing the taco bearings it was the sloppiest action of any knife I’ve ever used let alone a $300 one. I put the kvt bearings back in and it’s a whole different knife. The taco bearings didn’t fit and just slid around in the fittings for the bearings. Not so with the kvt. I’ve emailed the taco bearings fella and I’m waiting to see what he says. I’ve got the measurements for the bearings but nothing on the skiff site matches up and I’ve emailed the skiffs with no response so for now it’s back to the stock bearings.

It kinda sounds like he may have sent you the wrong bearings.
Did you assemble it with the steel washers against the titanium scales, on both sides?

Yes steel washers on the outside with bearings riding on the blade I’m not sure if they are the wrong ones or not but the od was too small they just slid around in the scales (the bearings and the washers). Still waiting to hear back.

He’s giving me a partial refund since I’m not sending the bearings back. By the time I pay for the shipping to get them back to him the difference in shipping and the refund he’s offering me would be a wash. Just sucks because I was looking forward to those bearings working out. He says it’s an isolated incident but is not willing to send a replacement set which seems odd but whatever makes the fella happy I guess. Just keep waiting and maybe skiff will have something.

If the issue is with his product, he should step up and cover return shipping.

Not sure what's going on in your case. What did the bearings he sent you measure out to?

They should be around .487" on the OD, and .194" on the ID.

Can you post some pictures of the loose fit?

The only other alternative I can find is Gillian Bearings, and they're a little pricey, IMO.

Yeah I don’t know what’s going on with this either. I paid $23.99 for them, they obviously don’t work/fit and he’s offering me a $10 refund if I keep them which is useless to me or for me to pay and send them back and get a full refund I suppose. I’ve asked him about a replacement set but haven’t heard back. I put the original kvt bearings back in so I would have a functional knife and the kvt bearings are a far cry different to the sloppy taco bearings I received so I don’t have any pictures of them sliding around in the handles/scales. I looked at the Gillian bearings but I want to wait and see if taco guy makes anything right. Thanks for your input and help on this thread. Hope you are well.

This was the email he sent me

I believe this is a isolated case since the bearing may work just fine on other ZT models. Feel free to ship it back via USPS first class or I can refund you $10 if you want to keep it.

So I told him I could keep them and take the $10 refund and I asked him if he wanted to send out another pair. The response I just got was short and sweet he literally said

Already refunded

And that’s all the response I got. Needless to say I won’t be doing anymore business with him nor can I recommend his bearings to anyone in good conscious. Oh well I guess it is what it is.

I ordered a set of Taco bearings for my 0562TI before I saw the negative comments. They should arrive tomorrow. I'll let y'all know how they fit.

Please do looking forward to it.

Likewise.

I have 3 sets of Taco Bearings. Two sets in my 0562Ti's, and the 3rd set in a 0393. No issues with any of them.
I have a 4th set on order, for another 0393 I just picked up on the Exchange.

I could mail you the set he sent me if your interested in taking a look.

What we need to determine is, did Taco Bearings send you the wrong set of bearings, or an out of spec set of bearings, and then get him to resolve the issue.
You're going to be out of pocket for the shipping costs, either way.

Here are my measurements, taken from my Plain Jane 0562Ti, w/ Taco Bearings.

Taco Bearing OD = .496" VS. Bearing pocket ID, in the left side of the blade and in the lock side of frame= .518"
This gives .022" of total clearance, or, .011" of clearance around the OD of the bearing, when centered in the pocket.

Taco Bearing pivot hole ID= .189" VS. Pivot OD= .187"
This gives .002" of total clearance, or, .001" of clearance around the ID of the bearing pivot hole, when centered on the pivot.

I'm pretty sure you understand, but these aren't meant to be interference fit, or press fit bearings.

If you look at the numbers I gave you in post #9, above, I took those numbers directly from Gillian Bearings' website.
" .487" on the OD, and .194" on the ID."
In comparison, the clearances on the Gillian Bearings are considerably looser than those of the Taco Bearings.

Mine arrived and I have installed them. Didn't measure them, sorry, but they fit perfectly and work great. To be honest, the action was pretty good with the KVT bearings, but it's a little better with the Tacos, and I didn't like the idea of the steel bearings riding on the Ti scales. Centering is perfect and there's no blade play.

3D Anvil 3D Anvil , glad to see they worked without a hitch.

Swp321 Swp321 , if you could show some pictures of your problem bearings, it would sure be helpful in identifying the issue.
