Trying to decide between the benchmade 940 and the zt 0566. I know there pretty different especially as far a weight is concerned. I was mainly curious which one would be the stronger of the two knives. The zt sure seems that it would be but I wanted you guys experience with both. The weight of the zt isn't a problem for me. I'm just wondering which knife would hold up better in the long haul. Thanks Basically which one is stronger.

I'm mainly asking which one would hold up to hard use better. It seems the zt would but I've heard good things about the 940 too. Thanks

Nothing specific. Basically which knife would be the stronger? Which one could take more abuse?

You may as well look at the 560 or 562. They feel in the hand about the same weight as the 566 and are bigger.

Then you can get a 940 at some point for light carry days.

I've handled both and carried the 0566, the 0566 is most definitely the sturdier of the two, the 940 is a gentleman's folder and is built as such: slim and light. The 0566 is overbuilt and heavy for the size, with a thicker blade and a beefy handle.

The ZT 566 is a STRONG little knife (In ZT terms that is). All steel and G10. It also has a nice, thick blade rather than the thinner one on the BM 940. The 566 also is in Elmax versus S30V. Hope this helps.

The 940 isn't a gentleman's folder. It can stand up to most cutting tasks, a benchmade valet is a gents folder..

As far as built for a bit harder use the ZT 566 ... the BM 940 is a great EDC and a great slicer but not as hardy as the ZT 566. as said above the Elmax is IMHO a plus ... not that S30V is bad but Ive had a few minor chips in some S30V blades.

The ZT 566 will fill your hand and the G10 give you a better grip if your're planning any heavy cutting chores also.

Both great knives ... just very different creatures.

If you're looking to use your knife a little harder than just average light tasks, my vote would have to go for the ZT. It's a good-sized knife, with a very handy blade shape and tough build. As JJ said above, the G10 will definitely give you better grip. It's a Hinderer design, and that man makes knives that can take a beating.

The Benchmade is a classy knife. Great looks and utility. I just think the ZT would be more up your alley.

If you go for the 0566, good luck deciding which configuration suits your needs best haha.

The 0566 is a little more hand filling. I've found that to be a bigger difference maker in extended use than most other factors. The blade is a little thicker on the 0566, but at .125", it's still not so thick as to cause excessive drag in long cuts. I've used a 0566 heavily over the last year. Most use has been cardboard (many hundreds of yards), plastic bindings, etc. I've also cut everything from wood to foam, vinyl to canvas. It has been a great knife for every job.

They are both great knives but like you said they are different. Based on what you are asking, I would say go with the 566! With that said both knives will hold up just fine to most every cutting task you would use a knife for so in that case go with the one that appeals to you the most!

The heck with all that, just go nuts and get both!!

It fits my definition of a gentleman's folder, being slim, light, and elegant. Certainly isn't a beefy folder like a ZT.

You could say a sebenza is a gentlemans folder, but that gives the impression it can't stand up to more than light tasks.

The 566 is a great knife. I purchased mine this past Christmas and it has pretty much kicked all my other knives out if the EDC rotation. Lol. I've been using it constantly at work and with a stropping once a week has held a razor edge.

As stated the comparison is apples and oranges. The biggest difference to me is pocket space and weight . ZT takes up most off my jeans pocket and weighs 80% (2.3 oz) more than the 940. I don't carry my Manix 2 and barely carry (unless hunting) my 710 because of the weight and the ZT outweighs them both.
It probably should be considered "stronger" but to me it's like a F 150 is "stronger" than a BMW.

No it doesn't, a gentleman's folder is just a folder that fits with formal clothing and situations rather than normal EDC. Just because it's a gentleman's folder doesn't mean it can't handle the tasks of a normal EDC, it just means it looks like a knife a gentleman would wear (i.e. with a suit)

I've had both and on the face of your question, the 0566 seems better suited for your needs.

The 940 is a fine knife, and there is a reason it is still in production.

But for taking abuse, the 0566, definitely. Since the weight and form factor do not matter.

This is actually exactly what I do. I have my main carry the 0562cf and when I have shorts or light pants the 940-1 is my carry!

Buy both! They're both awesome
