Just wanted to post this as a warning to anyone trying to buy one of the 0620CF ZT's. I just came across a clone on a website that looks deadly accurate to the real thing. I haven't seen it in person, but the pictures were SCAREY accurate.

Best of luck gentlemen.

Respectfully,

Mike

I hope those pictures worked. I also meant this as a PSA, and I hope I didn't post this in the wrong place.

When I have attached a photo I can't see it the first time so I eliminate it and add it again and then it can be seen.

should I delete the post with the image and try loading it again? Or should I edit the post and reload the picture in that manner?

One difference I'm noticing immediately is that the forward edge is totally straight whereas the real 0620's have a slight curvature to them.

Mike, I've noticed in some instances the old "bait and switch". The sales pictures are of the real item, possibly the box and packaging. Once the item arrives, it's off in all sorts of ways.

The lettering is a little wonky too, but if you haven't seen a real ZT0620 in person, I can see how that would fool a lot of people. What's really ironic to me is that whomever is making these knives obviously has skill, why not make their own knife and sell it?

On a related note, the quality of these fakes on eBay and other sources makes me glad that I only buy knives from reputable dealers.

The thing that scares me most is the reality that a knife can be replicated using lesser materials that looks and functions so close to the original that even a seasoned enthusiast would have trouble telling the fake from the original. I've seen some clones of high end production knives that are so damn close to the real thing that I had to sit there and examine the fake against the original in order to see differences. I have a few knives that I purchased online.. now I'm questioning everything. I know that many spyderco models are heavily cloned.. but until recently I never really saw decent ZT clones. It seems like they have arrived.. and to me.. that sucks. The secondary knife market is quickly becoming a mine field.. Bummer

Once people start using their knife the performance difference should let them know it's a clone. Most of the Chinese clones are in D2, right? So there should be noticeable differences, especially in terms of corrosion/discoloration and sharpening.

- They were already making very similar versions of the ZT0777. If it wasn't for the materials used in the originals, then it also would have been hard pressed to find the difference.

- It's always been a mine field even with genuine knives. I've purchased several used knives and all have had little issues that were not mentioned or noticed by the seller.

That may be true in some cases but its usually its on clones of customs where they were replicating it based on pictures because acquiring a sample is too costly. With production knives they actually import an example to reverse engineer. The knife it the picture is the actual knife they made.

Please just buy from reputable dealers and put these types of people out of business! This stuff makes me sick to my stomach! I am amazed how many people bring fakes in to our shop. Most are much easier to spot in person!

Didn't realize these were being counterfeited... I just bought a BNIB ZT0620CF on eBay for $200 which seemed like a really good deal, but now, not so much. Knife comes tomorrow. Any failsafe way of telling if it is genuine?

Not sure if it's just a coincidence, but from on the examples I've seen online, the lettering on the serial number text is in upper-case on the clones, "SER", and mixed-case on the real deal, "Ser". Without someone actually testing the metal though, there's probably no sure-fire way to determine real from fake, unfortunately. I've seen come great deals on the 620cf, even the 562, on that site, but then the ol' "if it seems too good to be true" adage kicks in, and I have to pass.
