ZT 0630 stiff detent -- ZT should be ashamed

Are the days of contacting the vendor or manufacturer first, to address an issue ..before publicly putting them on blast, over.

Some great advice in this thread. The answer is in here.

Take a deep breath.

If anyone should be ashamed EKI should. To let a company out shine you in everyway possible with your own design is pathetic. The 0620 is over 100$ cheaper than the real thing; and is better in every way(fit, finish, and material)
And to top it off kai/zt doesnt have an ego bigger than the sun.
If anything good on ZT.

Seriously, have you ever seen any of Thomas Welk's discussions on the forums, that guy has the biggest ego on the planet (and I am a ZT "fanboy" who has 20+ of them). If they were still on this forum he would have ripped this guy a new one making sure everyone knew it was all his fault vs. explaining the nuances of opening the folder (don't grip the lockbar).

If that were the case, that would indeed be in bad taste. I couldnt/wouldnt defend a coporate person hammering on a forum member here.
Lucky for us he cant chime in

^My 0630 is imposible to open one handed with my fingers just resting on the lock bar. My 0551 was the same way.

Check your grip and give it sometime to break in.
Interesting the variability with this model. My 620 was perfect smooth and easy to open. Whereas my 630 was like the OPs, an absolute bear trap. It did eventually break in but was never as nice as my 620.

Either you break it on our it will break you. Survival of the fittest. Lol

Try opening it with your left hand. This way you are not pushing blade into the lockbar with the ball as send hole, but away from it. If it can't be opened like that by yourself get it exchanged. While you at it with your left hand, try and get your middle finger to help you out. Try that with right hand. Using two fingers, pinching it. Maybe we'll teach you how to middle flick it soon. Welcome to the forum, nice entrance.

This is genius. So I am trying this and no luck yet. I must be a wimp. Went by the shop today and showed the knife to Erik (Eric?). Anyway, he thinks the knife is as it should be, but he also seems to think that if you have this knife, you should just be using the wave to open it. I could almost see eye to eye with that, but I am still eager to be able to open this knife one handed using the thumb disk. He did show me that the optimal way to open it is to push at about a 45 degree angle, not straight out on the disk and not along the axis of the knife

Survival of the fittest, eh? Well the gauntlet is thrown I guess. Is this knife going to get the better of me?

Looks like me and you may be in the same city. I have a 0620 that has been broken in. I wouldn't mind meeting at Erik's shop. Then you can see how smooth it is broken in and tuned.

This would be very cool (and give you an excuse to drop by Erik's shop). I was in the shop today, but shoot me a PM and suggest a time, and if I am not otherwise tangled up, I will jump on this. That is if this forum allows you to send a PM ?? You would have a chance to check out the knife in question and tell me what I am doing wrong, and I could learn something regardless.

I appreciate hearing this. Maybe I am not crazy or impossible to please after all. I should note that I have another ZT, an 0350, that I cannot find a thing to complain about -- an entirely different knife though, being an assisted flipper.

Again, if the knife opens smoothly with the wave method, I am certain the problem lies in your technique of opening with the thumb disc. Could you post a short video showing how exactly you attempt to open with the thumb disc?

Couldnt read through all the bullshit. How did you fix it man? My 0620 flicks out no problem. With or without fingers on the lockbar. The 0630 is impossible to open if you dont know what you're doing. 0620 effortless. What did you end up doing?

Keep opening and closing it everyday. (You might have 2 use your thumb and pointer finger on either side of the disc for now) but It will eventually break in. I had to do that to my 0630 and now it’s perfect.
