Zt 0780 eta?

Still going to use S30V? Was rather hoping it would be 154CM like the one I handled at BLADE.

Why would you want an inferior steel?

Perhaps you meant CPM154, that is the Crucible Powdered Metal version. Even so, it still offers no advantage over S30V, except perhaps manufacturing costs.

How is 154cm inferior?

Couldn't agree more...
Now back to scheduled programing...
Thomas? What are the specs? Namely, blade thickness of course. 5/32s!? 3/16ths? How about a wow-inducing 1/4? I know, I know... One can dream that one day ZT will produce a really hard use folder...

Calm down, I'm only kidding...

The prototype I handled at BLADE used 154CM like the ZT0200.

Re: Inferior Steel. It may not hold an edge as long as S30V, but it is easier for me to sharpen. I've had 2 knives with S30V chip on me & as such it's not a favorite. 154CM I have a long history with & I like it. I have a Tom Krein Ultimate Caper in CPM154 that I really like. I've not seen Kershaw/ZT use CPM154 so I did not suggest that. Lower cost would be another bonus for my wallet. I'd even prefer 14C28N over S30V.

Steel used regardless, I really liked the ZT0780. Skyline on steroids is a good description I've heard.

I’m not bashing 154CM. It’s a good quality steel. It just isn’t in the same category as the modern powder steels. (Including CPM154)

I was wondering if you have any knives in 14C28N? I bought a ZT 0170 recently, love the design and the price.

14C28N is a very adequate alloy. It's much better than 440C, AUS 8, etc. However, I have used it, sharpened it, and have seen that the steel is nowhere near as fine grained as any powdered steel.
Like 154CM, it’s not even in the same league as the powdered steels in the performance areas that matter most to me.

Regardless of the final steel they use in the 0780, I am still really looking forward to it because, in the short term, design trumps steel every time. And the 0780 looks like a stellar design, quite different than the other folders ZT has made.

This ain’t no Hinderer or Strider, and that’s good. I already have those tool designs.

bearcut - I have one knife in 14C28N, Black & Tan Skyline. Works fine for my needs.

Looks like our needs in a steel are different, BUT we both agree that the ZT 0780 is a good looking design & we want one.

Any news on this model?

Midway USA shows an ETA of 3-2-12. Do they know something we don't?

I'm betting that come friday, they still don't have any 0780. Kershaw is probably focused on pumping out the 0560 and 0561, so other ZTs are probably waiting in line. I'm looking forward to the 0780, much more interesting than the 0750 or 0700 (though that is a personal taste).

I tend to agree with this statement, although I am just as anxious for the 0780 to be released, I really like the overall slim profile of it.I totally dig the ZT, but have kinda strayed from it because its just to beefy( thats a good thing, don't get me wrong)

I am so excited about the 0560,0561,777 and 0780.These are great times to be a knife knut my friends!!

Maybe ZT can do a stonewash finish on the 0780 blade if that is still possible?

Agreed!!! Stone washed would be spectacular, even just the option of satin or coated would be great. If there is one critique I have of zt it is that aside from the hinderer models, the black on black on black on black color scheme isn't my favorite.

Ive been waiting on this one too ........long time .......I can wait as long as it takes.
Just as long as there still gonna make it .........this knife looks awsum. dj

Looks pretty cool. I like the design and that sick looking pommel on the end. I have to admit though. The knife is very different from the usual ZT stuff.

I've been looking at the 0750 lately. That's the one I want. Wish I had more info on that one.
