Hey, fellow knife nuts. I recently bought a ZT 0850. The question is, is it supposed to be possible to push the sub frame lock all the way over the the opposing slab? I have to be honest, it doesn't take a ton of effort to do it either. This knife is less than a month old, by the way. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

a few ZT models do this. its designed that way unintentionally imho. just dont push it to the edge. i also dont see the lock failing at all when its that far over.

either dont worry about it or... if you just bought it from a vendor have them trade it for another one. if the other one does it, send it in for warranty.

Are you sure warranty will cover/fix this "issue" of lockbar overtraveling under pressure? I put it in quotes because I am not sure KAI would view it as an issue.

They didn't see it as a problem on my 0450cf o_O

You'd think all the honeycombs would have prevented this.

Most of the newer ZT'S I've bought in the past two years have locks you can push over far, with thumb pressure. They don't come off the blade base, you can just push them way over though. A 0452, 0804 and 0920 all move. Another 0452 doesn't, 2 -0562CF won't a 0600 doesn't and probably more I am forgetting. I just don't know why some are solid and others aren't? None of my other brand framelocks do this.

Part of it is related to the shallow ramp on the tang. Personally I don't try to push my frame or liner locks over. What I do is make a hard cut or pull back on the blade to simulate a hard cut to see if the lockbar engages more deeply or gets stuck. If it moves all the way over from that test, then I would be disappointed.
I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that the lockbar can be pushed over. Some frame/liner locks clearly are not designed to wear-in as evidenced by a sharply radiused tang.
