ZT 0909 impressions

I don't think you will be disappointed with the 0909 but it is a much different knife than the 0550. Not better or worse, just different.
  • Th 0909 feels a lot different in the hand. It's much thinner than the 0550.
  • The 0909 is a good flipper but honestly I would have preferred it to be a standard thumb stud opener on PB washers.
  • As others have stated, the pocket clip is almost goofy on the knife. It's the same one used on the tiny 0900, one of my all time favorite knives by the way.
  • The 0909 is a liner lock instead an integral (frame) lock like the 0550. Its liner lock is plenty stout though.
  • Other ZTs I'd recommend considering: 0456, 0562, 0620/0630.
  • You might also consider an actual Hinderer depending on your budget. I just got my first, an MP-1. Its action is not as reliable as any of the ZTs mentioned (hit or miss on flipping) but overall it's a really nice knife. You just have to think about it when opening. It compares well to the 0550. Sorry, no photos yet.
  • The Benchmade 275 Adamas is a great robust folder too, one of their best knives in my opinion.

If you are considering other heavy duty folders, i can strongly recommend the Benchmade Adamas and new Cold Steel SR1. The SR1 is like an adamas with an even tougher lock, its also close to an affordable version of an actual Demko AD- 10. Has the strength of the 4max in a carryable size. An actual legitimate overbuilt knife with a stupidly tough lock, probably one of the toughest knives on the market.

Thanks for the offer Petromac but I placed my order yesterday should get my 0909 next week. And hopefully I'll get some time to get some pics up after I've had a chance to use it for awhile.

I did not offer to sell it to him... I was offering to put it in his hands so he could play with it before dropping the cash... this place is fucking trash period, get off your high horse.
 
I received my ZT 0909 today ... just unpacked it and have to say it feels great in my hand ... has the heft and size I prefer for my working knives. So a huge thank you to everyone that shared their opinions and pictures ... I love the forums that even those of us that dont get alot of chance to handle alot of knives before buying but we can always come here and get some straight forward information on the good and or bad for whatever we may be interested in. I can't wait to put it to work awhile and try tp post some pics after I've had a chance to carry and use it some. I also bought some micarta scales for it because I loved the micarta I had on one of my ZT 0550s but this one feels good I may not change them. Thanks again !!!

Congrats on the new ZT. :thumbsup: Can I ask where you got the micarta scales for the 0909? I'm aching for a nice OD Green set for mine, and don't know where to look. Thanks.
 
Sure I got mine from GPKnives ... they had black and green in stock. I got the OD green I think they will look good on the 0909.
