The handle, weight, and amazing ffg that the p2 offers is hard to beat. So the zt 562 is suppose to be a better slicer than other zt's. I like the stronger tip. Is it worth the extra money over getting a p2?

Both of those knives have their fans. I own both (am currently offering the PM2 for sale in the Exchange). The ZT feels like a more robust knife, whereas the PM2's fine tip is probably going to give you more options for fine detail work.

pm2 is my favorite spyderco ever... I had a zt0560 that I've since sold (not sure how that compares to a 0562), but I decided to keep my cheaper pm2 over it. everything about the pm2 just felt right to me... don't get me wrong, the 560 was nice, but not nearly as versatile IMO.

IMO paramilitary 2 is a better slicer. But the 0562 isn't a slouch. I think if in a jam the PM2 tip would break.

For the 'extra money' you get a carbon fiber scale, M390 blade steel and the look of a knife that costs 2x as much with a decent but not as desirable blade steel. If you want a PM2 with a comparable blade steel you'll be paying close to the same price as the 0562CF.

Like drrickso, PM2 is one of my all time favorites. Love the look of the ZT 056X series but eventually sold the 0560 off, too heavy and blade a bit too thick. Not practical for my light EDC use.

They are such different knives. They both have features the other does not.
The para is more simple and straight forward as an EDC. Great cutting and piercing power with a reliable lock.
0562 ZT is high tech and offers alot of the new bells and whistles.

I would go for the para 2 every time.

Not really in the same class. I have a 0561 and a PM2 Camo/Satin, and to be honest despite the fact that I'm always sharpening chips out of it, the PM2 gets carried more. A lot more. Working in an office I don't need a heavy duty folder. My heavy duty knives get weekend use, and in the winter the Ti and aluminum knives sit in the drawer.

The only downside of the Paramilitary 2 is IMO the finger choil.
Like if you cut a rag or some plastic or such... the choil tends to hook on those materials...
That's why I prefer the Delica over the PM ;)

I'm off topic but I don't mind finger choiled Spydies and find myself using it... I guess material getting caught on Spyderco choils has happened to me one time or another but then again... Flippers has gotten in the way of my cutting a lot more times. Makes a cool finger guard....Until you need to cut things on a flat surface.

The ZT is 5.5 ounces; the PM2 is 3.9 ounces. The 0562 weighs 41% more than the PM2.

1. I've had many ZT's; only have the model 0770/M390 at present. It weight 3 ounces, the same as a small CRK Sebenza.
2. I've had a whole bunch of PM2's at 3.9 ounces. Carries very nice in the pocket. I really love 'em.

I will not/do not buy any folder that weighs more than five ounces. This is basically the weight of a CRK Large Sebenza (4.7oz) and the Umnumzaan at 5.0 ounces. If you NEED a more heavy-duty knife than the Zaan, then fine. Some guys LOVE to carry a heavy knife and that's great. But it makes me walk lop-sided, and my hips hurt anyway.

I tried the PM2 and it wasn't for me. The lock was not my favorite and the handle didn't feel right. The quality of it is great, I just didn't like it. I did get to handle both the 0562 and 0562CF before they released and I prefer them over the Spyderco. I'm a fan of the Hinderer design in general and the ergos on the ZT's worked much better for me. If having a slicer is your main goal, get the PM2. If you want something a little bigger and beefier get the ZT.

my pm2 is the s35vn sprint... I believe the standard pm2 is s30v (somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that).

Guys, how do you compare slicing abilities of 562 and Para2?
I do not need more heavy duty, but do not mind a new slicer. I like the looks of 562CF, but have a concern about slicing 4mm thick blade.

I usually have an apple with lunch, and am able to peel the apple finely with my 0562CF. I am left with pieces of skin with very little apple on the inside of the skin. It's a great knife.

Do you notice your increased weight with that 6oz apple in your belly?

I sure don't...

LOL Nope, I sure don't either. I carry big heavy knives, and it's never been an issue for me. When folks start kvetching about ounces, I tend to tune that out. I'm a big guy, ounces don't matter much to me. I think I actually carry over a lb. of steel with me every day. LOL
