ZT announced their LE knives purchase rules

Now were talking about "bots" to buy ZT knives. ZT shouldn't release the exact time of the release either. It's a pain but keeps traffic down at one specific time. And maybe some resellers would shy away.

Love ZT knives, but don't like their PR machinery they couldn't stay on BF without some kind of polarization.

Doesnt that defeat the purpose? Why build a LE knife and sell it to 2nd market sites for months and then cut supply to just your website? Naturally, the second hand market will be dried up by then anyway, this seems like a traditional move for most knifemarkers, 2nd hand market is only hot when direct website supply is dry.

Blade HQ will NOT be getting the 0454. Blade HQ made a presumption, before this was announced, that they would be getting some (which was never guaranteed to begin with). Dealers do this all the time, even with knives that haven't been formally announced.

Dealers didn't know if they were getting LEs or not and if they did they didn't know how many. That didn't stop them from selling tons of pre-orders.

Sounds like one of the reasons for this new system is to stop this.

At least I don't have to hear "I've had a preorder for almost a year, when is my knife coming out" crap anymore. Some retailers will start taking orders without even knowing if they are getting a single one and that is just bad business.

It's a big change, I'm well aware of that, but let's just wait and see how this new system works out.

Here's hoping that KAI/ZT accepts/enables PayPal payments. I can buy something much faster with PayPal and the autocompletion of all the address fields. Checkout then becomes a 10 second process.

The only thing sucks big time about this,
and I don't see anybody talking about,
is that only people in the US & Canada can benefit from it,
and I'm not one of them.

Here's some helpful information about placing orders directly with KAI:

  • Only orders to U.S. and Canadian addresses are accepted.
  • The shipping charge is only $7.00.
  • You can pay by Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, PayPal or Bill Me Later (US only).
  • You have up to 30 days to return your item if you are not delighted with your order.
  • KAI USA (ZT, Kershaw and Shun) uses the Shopatron shopping service and your credit card will be charged by "Shopatron*Kai Knives." If sales tax is required, it will be added to the order total. When the order ships, KAI will send an email with tracking information. Your card will also be charged when the order ships.
  • You must create an account for your order. Unfortunately, you cannot create an account without a first order. You can also cancel your order there, change payment method and address.

The only problem I have with the policies is the "no shipping to PO Boxes". I have everything shipped to my PO Box because I live in a rural area where we have "mailbox shoppers", thieves who follow mail carriers and remove items from mail boxes. PO Boxes are a hell of a lot more secure than some house or apartment mail box.

From what I've received from KAI USA in Oregon if it's knives they ship UPS but for small parts I've given them a PO Box with no problem. By the way, the Shopatron site does not prevent you from entering a PO Box for the shipping address. However, in order no to cause order complications and/or delays I suggest using a street address as mentioned by KAI: "Products cannot be shipped to PO Boxes."

Might be worth it for some guys to pre-buy something cheap to get an account sorted, or even cheaper through another Shopatron site (I had an account and didn't even know from mountain bike parts purchases). If it's a mad rush as it's likely to be unless numbers are large, if someone has to setup/edit an account before finishing checkout that's a significant disadvantage compared to those with accounts setup that just have to log in and go, instead of filling out name/address/CC info, etc. especially if the knife in your cart is not reserved for you until checkout is completed.

I am resolving not to worry about things which I cannot control. I can only try to buy the knives I want, whether I am successful or not time will tell. I think people are overthinking things way too much here. In the end, it's just not worth it to me personally to stress over it.

Hello!

US / Canada only is a real bummer for me and other collectors here in Europe. Really dislike this move - the preorders the way the used to be at least offered some chance of getting them over here without paying the crazy aftermarket prices.

Regards,
Alex

It's about time. The gouging, the insane pattern of having to pre-order from 5 different sellers hoping one of them gets a shipment, all of it has been nuts.

I don't really see a problem with shipping only to US and Canadian address. Most of the secondary market sellers only sell to US address, let alone Canada.

That's what I was thinking after I ready a post earlier. The chances of a foreigner scoring these off a dealer was close to nill anyways. But who knows, maybe they'll do something about that in the future and give non N. Amercian customers a better chance that they ever had. FYI to others out there, I'm from the states and acquiring LE ZT's at MSRP or below were extremely difficult for us even here.

Thank you for the heads up. I cancelled my pre order for the carbon fiber 0562. But I have to say this all titanium version hinderer model is sleek and I will hope to get one if I jump on it fast enough.
My PO box will have to work.
My town does not deliver mail or allow mail boxes. It is hard enough to get my mail lol.
