Well, this Saturday that just passed was a great chance to get out into the woods yet again.
Weather was perfect, knives were ready, and all were in good health.
So off we go!
The ZT 0102 makes limbing a breeze.
This time out was the first time we have encountered people out there in 6 years of using the site.
First, a dog came running down the valley and up towards us, with bark/growls halfway between friendly and biting; it was called back by the woman who it was with (she was out of sight).
The dog returned while my dad was gathering dead wood, and this time the woman was with it.
Turns out she owns a chunk of land on the borders of the wooded area, and got turned around. She has seen the site in the past, so came back to it to get her bearings.
While my dad talked to the woman and gave a compass direction out, the dog explored the camp:
We found out the status of the woods ownership-wise, and the consensus is that our activities are entirely okay.
After the woman and dog were off on their way, table construction could commence.
My brother brought reusable zip-ties, and they were very handy:
Switched to working on the steak stick.
batonned the ZT 0561 enough to sink the blade in...
...then completed the split with a combination of muscle and wiggling as I leaned into the cut:
Switched to the ZT 0804CF to peel the bark, and smooth out the interior of the split:
Stuff on the table, and a shot of the camp from a distance (hard to see now that the leaves have grown in):
Here you can see the Cold Steel Espada XL in my dad's pocket...it got used for precisely nothing at all.
Group shot of knives on the table:
My dad looking really relaxed as he cooks a sausage:
The "meat stick" my brother assembled, prior to cooking:
My dad uses the Benchmade to see if it is fully cooked, prior to eating...followed by a picture of getting it into a bun:
Woods pic:
This is relaxing; steak in one hand, while lazily cooking a sausage with the other.
I had been going to make a spring-loaded snare trap to catch the "wild woods steak", but got tired, so I didn't.
But here's a couple of notches made with the ZT 0804CF:
Cooking the final three sausages:
I brought an empty protein bucket, as it would be great for putting out the fire.
I followed my brother down to the creek as he fought his way through the tangled growth...
To get to the mostly dried up creek...
To get this measly couple of liters of muddy water!
Here's the re-stocked wood pile, with the bucket 'o water beside it:
And, on the way out, we ran across one small toad.
I tried to get it to jump on the axe, but it decided to crawl underneath instead.
I had to change the pic to black and white, crop it and play with exposure settings to make the little guy visible:

Weather was perfect, knives were ready, and all were in good health.
