ZT Detent Change

That setup doesn't make sense for a hard use knife. Can a dude with gloves guarantee that some portion of one of his fingers isn't on the lockbar? What about if you're in an upside down car, your right hand is disabled, three fingers on your left hand are missing, and you can't open that SAAWEEET knife because, damn it, it flips so well under the perfect circumstances but no other time.

So Cal here, don't even own a pair of gloves. Also, have a rescue axe in my truck for emergencies.

And....with you scenario, you already bled out. You don't need a knife.........:)

and.......... just thinking out loud, but how is the scenario you just laid out ... considered to be "perfect circumstances" ??

You have these kind of accidents often?? lol

:)

But what if you need to cut yourself away from the seat belt and need to cut your pants belt off to make a simple tourniquet and find out you need to hack off your gear shifter to use as the lever in the tourniquet while also cutting up some zip lock bags to cover the chest wound? Would a flipper REALLY be the best pocket knife you could have there???

Do guns shoot themselves? No. Do cars drive themselves? not usually, No. Do planes fly themselves? in most cases no. In any case where a human needs to operate a mechanical device he must learn how to use the item effectively. Is a apache helicopter NOT a hard use military aircraft because you cant fly one? Just because a knife wasnt designed specifically to fit your desires doesnt mean its wrong. It means it wasnt designed for you. Any folder. And I mean any folder in gloved hands will not be guaranteed of anything if the user doesnt learn how to properly use that tool. And bodog you certainly know better by now than to play the what if game. We could run that argument into the dirt just like every other time so lets cut the head of this beast and just say "what if your in an upsidedown rollercoaster and your decapitated and you cant open your heavy detent knife because your head cant communicate with your body" its a stupid argument because any knife in any situation you can play the what if game effectively as there are no limits to what ifs.

That roller coaster thing happened to me once... that's the last time that will ever happen... :)

But for real, I've seen em a couple of times, always late to the scene. Not a fun thing to witness.

The ZT 0630 is not a flipper. ;)

The ZT 0561 is though...and I just checked it with my thickest winter gloves.
Opens perfectly.

I just received a ZT 0630 yesterday. The detent is indeed super strong. At first I could not open it with the thumb disk either. I had to watch a couple of youtube videos and see how others were opening this knife. Some of them made it look easy. I kept at it for a bit last night. I can get it to open every time now. I think it was a little bit of a learning curve on how to deploy it with the disk. By the end of the night it was easier for me to open it with my thumb. The detent is definitely strong, and combined with trying to open it with the thumb disk is a challenge. I think it will break in nicely though. Also I own three other ZTs, but they are all flippers. Love them all, including this 0630.

Wait a minute, I thought we were talking about the 452cf...

Hasn't happened in 51 years...... not really worried about your scenario !!!

First post was about a 0630.
Probably have had other knives tossed in along the way, which I cannot comment on really, as I don't have them.

I'm sure you wouldn't have sustained those injuries with a Spyder hole.

Good one. :D
It was due to finding a way to wedge myself upside down in the apartment; if my wife was home, she would have wondered what the hell I was doing.

Well, then completely disregard everything I said. If its not a flipper then it can obviously open anytime, anywhere.

Except with thick gloves one-handed.
I was actually surprised by that, but now I know.

I have to nominate the Spyderco Military as the easiest to open and close one-handed with gloves.
