I have a zt 0350. I cut one aluminum can and the dlc has came off in certain spots. I have heard of the aluminum rubbing off on the dlc before. I thought that was the case but I can see the factory grind lines underneath. Has this happened to anyone else?

Did you try to clean the blade? what did you use? Aluminum usually will rub off on dlc but it can scratch through the coating depending on how well the coating is bonded to the base metal. But the grind lines being visible I doubt was because of the can. I have used things on a blade to clean them only to find out later they contained an abrasive that was actually removing the coating. Can you post a pic?

The coating was fine until the can. I used rubbing alcohol and a sleeve from a cotton shirt. I'm not able to post a picture being that I'm using my phone. Some spots do look like aluminum just rubbed off. A couple spots though I can see vertical grind lines. Maybe I didn't clean it good enough.

In my experience with dlc coatings, contact with other metals is what tends to leave the more permanent marks. Most marks you get on dlc will tend to smear/rub away overtime, but when i used mine a couple times on a aluminum can, they were there the rest of time i had it (about a year).
I also made a few swipes through aluminum foil and it left marks then too. Most of those weren't perminant, but took a long time (around 6 months) to go away.
