I just bought a ZT 302 and having some second thoughts. It is a superb knife and I really like it. But is it too big to carry around on weekends in my jeans or shorts? Will it freak people out? Do you feel self conscious carrying a big knife regularly?
 
It will definitely freak people out. Huge 8oz knife with really wide blade + assisted open is pretty terrifying.
 
Yes a few people might freak, but I have found if you use a big knife on front of NKP, just slow your actions a little. Maybe let them see you going in to your pocket and draw it out. Then open it, in a tool like manner.

Not..... Run up to what ever needs cut, draw your knife in the normal fast fluid motion like you would at the house breaking some cardboard down. All that speed, makes you look like a slasher killer to some. (Not that I care what others think ;))

I carry a large Sebbie or some sort most days, or a ZT300, or a Mili, or a Endura, or a XM... or Strider RC. You get the point, I like em' big when I leave the house. Most people who know me at all know I have a knife or four on me at all times. :D

The 300 is a great bang for the buck tough guy knife, carry that sucker with pride. After a week, anything else will feel like a girly knife. Not that there is anything wrong with "girly knives." I have my fair share of sub 3 1/2 inchers. :cool:
 
I carry my 0301 every day and don't really have any issues with it. (Admittedly, I'm usually carrying enough stuff it's a wonder my pants will stay up without suspenders.)
The short clip is great. I usually do have a smaller folder on me as well, but if I need to use the 0301 I will.
I'll usually do like So-Lo mentioned though and try not be overly enthusiastic using it.
Try having some uses for it besides self-defense for when the inevitable questions get asked.

Carry it for a while and see if you get used to it, didn't take me any time at all.
 
too big? huh?

I'm with kneedeep here, it fels pretty small in my hands and light in my pockets.
 
thanks so much, I really dont want to sell it, cause I really like it. I will wear it a while and follow your advice.
 
Try carrying it in a Multitool sheath on your belt. Looks much nicer to open the sheath and take out the knife slowly than drawing it from the pocket. Probably a lot less likely to scare anyone.

I have had the same problem while carrying huge knives.

I almost feel guilty because I have no reason to carry a huge knife and I cant pull it out with out scaring people.

I prefer knives with blades under 3" and local laws in los angeles demand that as well.

But even when I went to las vegas I felt uncomfortable carrying a huge knife and put it back in the room and took out the small benza.
 
I carry my 301 alto, and I have not had any problems with it in my pocket. It,s not to big for me. But, people on the other had, that may be a problem. I really don't have to many problems with freaking out the sheeps.
 
I used to feel self-conscious about carrying a large knife. Then, it hit me: I'm not doing anything wrong. There is nothing inherently evil about a knife which has 1" or 2" more steel on its blade.

Our society has been programmed (yes, programmed) to have a certain attitude concerning knives, but it's a fear based not on reality.

I carry 2 knives each day, one smaller (a slipjoint, in fact) and one larger. Between the 2, I can accomplish most anything I need to, whether it be strip wiring, slice veggies, take small branches off trees, or not scare people yet still cut something.

I'm always polite and responsible when I use a knife in public; I'm polite and responsible anyways.

Knives, large and small, are a primary tool of humanity and we do nothing wrong by having such available for use when needed.
 
I carrie an m16 04, people always give me looks, try to lecture me and ask me why i kneed it. I tell them because i can because its easer than searching around. and it als none of your consurn what knife i have. I want to get a ZT very soon. Im lookin at ther bigguns. either the 0302 or the 0301. Who care what other people think No one oppinion matters but your own.........
 
I carry my ZT 0200 in a verticle belt-sheath, and I have no worries about pulling it out and flipping it open to use, no-matter what "sheeple" are around...If they don't like it, they can leave.
 
I carry a zt0301 on my belt using the clip quite a bit. If I am wearing a belt I dont seem to notice the weight. However, if I am wearing shorts without a belt, I probably EDC a lighter knife like my Benchmade 550. I have never had a problem with people commenting on the ZT. The ZT is a stout knife.
