OK, I think this knife deserves a second try, so here we go...

I know it is a lot to ask, but lets try to stay on topic and stay civil.
Comments and opinions are welcome as long as they stay on topic.
They can certainly be positive, or negative, but to help make this a productive thread try to explain your thoughts.

Also feel free to ask questions, maybe we'll get lucky and Thomas (maybe even Tim) will answer them.

Couple pics of the ZT Galyean for those interested in Automatics.

The first articles of these have been shipped. I would imagine there will be variations to this piece, but no additional info on that today.

Here's a chunk of the info from the flyer I posted in the Automatics Forum.

0610st
Blade - 154CM stainless-steel with Tungsten DLC coating, partially serrated. 3 1/2inches (8.9 cm), 0.156 inches thick.

Handle - 3-D machined, 6061-T6 anodized black aircraft aluminum. 5 1/4 inches (13.3 cm).

Lock Push Button with Slider safety

Weight 4.6 oz.

From the brochure:
"Sure, this new ZT Automatic is ready for duty fast - with the push of a button - but safety is a top consideration, too. ZT security technology, like ZT construction, is second to none. The 0610st features the ZT Push Button Auto Lock. It operates with the ease of a push button, but features a secondary slider lock that prevents the button from being accidentally depressed and deployed. Just move the secondary slider forward into a notch under the button and it's completely secure. Once open the blade locks in place and stays that way until the user releases it."

Remember, love it or hate it, this is a landmark knife for Kershaw/ZT as this will be their (as far as I am aware) first entry in to the Automatic market.

I love the fact that the handles are machined Al and not G10. The only thing that would be cooler with be Ti.

I presume the "ST" in the model denotes serrated tanto. Can we infer from this that there may be other blade shapes and/or plain-edged versions coming? If so, I may add one to the stable (Idaho has no issues with autos).

Thomas had mentioned in the automatics forum that he could see plain edge versions of the 0610 and 0650 down the road.

yeah it doesnt look like there will be another blade shape, just the PE or SE option. i think you said it earlier KD, that the blade shape offers a nice, though somewhat subtle, contrast to the lines of the handle. I have to agree. it looks great.

Rick, i thought they were g-10 at first as they have that look in the pics. like you though, i am happy that it will be in AL. sadly no TI. who knows, maybe TAD will want to do a sprint run with TI handles? that would be cool :D

What I'm really liking about this one is that it appears to be a slimmer profile than say the 0200 or 0300, which is good for me. I'e been wanting a ZT for a bit now and after handling them a few times I decided they were just too big in the pocket for EDC and therefore I couldn't justify dropping the $$$ to pick one up. But this one (just judging by the pics here) could fit the bill perfectly.., ZT rock solid build AND slim enough for EDC'ing it comfortably in the pocket = perfect IMO!!!

Yeah, the handle looks long and slim.
Can't wait to see it compared to the 0200 and Spec Bump.

An ALBLK Speed Bump and a would also be interesting to compare to.

At 4.6 ounces, it's almost half the weight of the 0200, and I don't think using AL for the handle would give it that much of an advantage over G-10.

it will sure have a sweet feeling "thwack" when it opens with that weight. just remember to have a good grip on it!

As I mentioned before, I'm anxious to try any company's first attempt at an Auto, especially ZT. It will be interesting to hear from anyone in the field as to their preference of assisted models or this one. I don't find the design to all that different from other ZT's, but I'm sure it will do well.

Wow I should read the info first before gawking at the photos:foot:. I was thinking the handles were G-10 the whole time.

I'd really dig this knife in a plain edge model. Only problem for me, is that if I get one, it's only for lookin' at, as I can't legally carry it in CA.

hey thomas, it says the lock is the button with slider safety. is this double action or single action? thanks, this thing looks sweet. i would not be above hitting up my military buddies for one of these just to keep in the house (no carry in MD)

In the second pic, the slider is pulled away from the button.
I would think in that position the safety is off?

The flyer pic shows the slider up against the button and the knife in the open position.
Does that re-engage the safety in the open position?

mike

I think this will a welcome addition to the world of Auto's......meanwhile I'll stick with flippers and assisted openers.... :D

I was thinking the same thing. At first glance it looked like G-10
to me also.

At 4.6 oz, it should fit and feel great in the pocket.

OK, I think this knife deserves a second try...

Geez. I go away for the weekend, and this place just goes nuts! Kids these days... *shakes head*

Has there been a mention of the retail price/street price on this auto?
