KAI signed up GTC as their newest collaborator and we're getting a ZT version of what looks to be the airborne.

A ZT with the SLT would be EPIC! Can't wait for this week to come.

Here's the custom Airborne for this who don't know.

The SLT stands for spring loaded tab. The flipper tab is a spring loaded tab that stays out of the way and pulls back when you go to flip it open. You have to see a video of it to really get it but it's AWESOME!

Super sweet looking blade right there!
Thanks for posting!!

I'm not a huge fan of the grind but I've always loved G. Cecchini's work. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

That being said, this is definitely going to piss off all the ZT fans that have been begging for a good old non-bearing beater ZT. And to be honest, I agree with them. I'd love to see something similar to a Les George VECP but with G10 and maybe a liner lock. Non-flipper, on washers, grippy G10, with quality steel.

take the les george out of that equation and you have the ZT0630

Take the non flipper/washer out and you have the ZT0909.

True, but those are only two knives in a sea of what a lot people are calling "toy knives" (I don't necessarily agree with that moniker), and neither of those fulfills a liner lock, washer, non-flipper. Not to mention that the 0630 remains the only ZT on washers. With the countless bearing flippers that ZT puts out one would think that they'd stick to their roots and put out some classic ZT hard-use knives. Hopefully there will be some released at Show Show this week.

And don't get me wrong, I absolutely love flippers that ride on bearings, just playing Devil's advocate here.

This is very exciting. Thanks for sharing Scurvy.

Another chance for me to be able to afford a knife from a great designer. Can't wait.

So, they continue to making safe queen jewelry toys.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. Troll much?

While his delivery left a bit to be desired, this is a legitimate opinion held by many people who were long time ZT fans. ZT has done nothing but alienate these people in the past few years. And this is exactly what I was trying to convey in my earlier comments in this thread. I don't think anyone can deny that ZT has shied away from their original heavy-duty use and overbuilt designs and moved to more light-duty, "EDC-friendly" flippers.

ZT's website even says:

"HARD-USE PREMIUM AND PROFESSIONAL KNIVES
Designed and manufactured to stand up to heavy-duty use, Zero Tolerance Knives are built of premium materials. The knives have earned a reputation among their devoted fans as being a "real beast" or even being—proudly—'overbuilt'."

I also just want to reiterate, I'm a huge fan of bearing flippers but I firmly believe that ZT needs to get back to their roots and balance their myriad of bearing flippers with some non-flipper, washer knives.

Lastly, apologies for throwing this thread off-topic, but this announcement is bound to attract some controversial opinions.

Maybe someone should give some crap to the Chinese manufacturers too? Because I'm mostly seeing bearing flippers there also. Personally I see their roots as forging forward and leading the pack, not resting on their laurels. Thats what it looks like they are doing again with this GTC collaboration.

If that's how you treat your knives who are we to judge? Make no mistake these knives aren't just bling for our pockets, they actually work and cut too.

The 620/630 are very smooth on washers as well, nearly as smooth as the bearing flippers. As for the new collab, I have absolutely no interest in it. I'm sure plenty will claim it is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and that is fine. I suspect ZT will have some great offerings at SHOT that appeal to a variety of people, and I expect they will offer some models that "get back to their roots" so to speak, as well as some space age concept art like the above. Hopefully everyone will get something to desire.

I love my ZTs, but I'm not feeling it at all for this design. Can anyone explain to me at all how these compound, goofy reverse tanto blade grinds are functional at all? I can't see that jacked up blade design doing the simplest EDC task like cutting up an apple. The handle looks "gripless". If this is the new ZT, then I'll be out for 2017 like I was for most of the 2016 models. The only new ZT that opened my wallet was the 0606, and that was kind of an impulse purchase.

ZT built their reputation on hard-use, overbuilt knives before the bearing/flipper craze hit. I can't fault them though, since it's easier to maintain sales off of limited/sprint run knives that provide entertainment as well as cutting ability.

Again, I'll most likely end up buying one of the 0055s. It would just be nice to see some diversity in ZTs lineup.

The 0200 and 0550 were literally the only two manual opening knives on washers ZT made for any length of time before the 0620/0630.

Where did this reputation for manual opening, non flipper knives on washers come from when only one knife ever really met this criteria?

ZT builds what people buy. If everyone wanted these mythical knives, the 0550 would have blown the 0560 out of the water with sales instead of the other way around and we'd have more of these style knives because there would have been a market for them.

Now, let's please stay on topic of the GTC/ZT partnership.

Gotcha scurvy, I think this knife will perfectly pair the hard to get and sought after GTC design with great ZT fit and finish. I know it won't be for everbody but for those in the custom market or wish to be there it won't get any better!

It's a win win in these collab situations for both the custom makers and ZT/ Kershaw. The CM gets their name and brand opened up to a greater fan base become more well known and ZT gets to work with them and bring new and unique designs/ innovations to masses.

I agree and don't agree....as this does not fit their jewelry stuff IMHO.

While I do not care for the jewelry stuff, they do have other great designs that EDC perfectly like the 0900. So they play to their market very well.
