Nevermind, too many juveniles in this thread. Thanks for the adult responses to those others, regards.

That's strange, they are usually really good at sharpening

Not bashing your thread or anything. But did the rope cutting test dull your knife? You say you sent a brand new knife to ZT for sharpening but if it was used for the rope test and was dull it wasn't brand new and if it wasn't dull why send it in? Not saying the sharpening job was great by any means but they do use grinding wheel I believe and not the best edge.

I thought I was clear but I'll clarify. The knife was BNIB. A buddy and myself did an edge retention test on several knives and cut a ton of rope. Since I was going on vacation and didn't want to pull out the sharpening supplies, I just sent it in to ZT for a free sharpening. This is how it returned.

I know, this is what I have heard so I didn't even hesitate to send it in. I didn't give it a second thought.

I suppose it is POSSIBLE (very, very small chance though) that the scratches got there while we were testing and I didn't notice, but again I highly doubt it. However, the sharpening job is clearly substandard by every definition of the word.

Quit whining and learn how to sharpen. Just putting that out there. It takes longer to send it in than to "pull out the sharpening supplies."
I am guessing you cant sharpen, and that you cut nowhere near a "ton" of rope, and that the knife probably wasnt that dull. I dont usually jump on newbs but for you I will make an exception.

Mycough, your response is so immature and juvenile I shouldn't even respond and won't after this. My friend runs a blog (gives opinions and reviews on knives and companies) and neither of us had ever used ZTs sharpening service so in addition to other reasons already stated, we wanted to give them a first hand review, or at least he did.

Serious and curious question, how old are you? And FYI, I was in this forum for about decade under an old screen name that I established when I was in the Army. Pretty sure I joined when I lived in Germany if my memory serves me right.

Not sure but seemed 17-19 range to me given that I have been sharpening knives for many years *cough*mycough *cough*

I don't remember having many members like this but it's been years so I may have just forgotten. I thought I made a thread with the appropriate amount of decorum and respect, not to mention details and clarity about the situation. I'm out of this thread and will stick to the CRK forums as I used to frequent, goodbye.

"buy the Russian"

What's up with that???

If you think that's strange, read what the "Reason for Warranty Service" is.

It says: "My buddy butchered my blade trying to sharpen it after *too blurry* about a dozen *too blurry* (we are no longer friends obviously), please save it!! Thanks"

So it looks like his buddy screwed the blade up "trying to sharpen it" and that's the reason it was sent in. Does ZT use the same form for their sharpening service as they do for warranty claims??

LOL, my teenage son did all that paperwork (or e-paperwork I guess) online...he's a mess, said something about squirrels too haha! And yes, apparently they use the same form for warranty and sharpening.
