So I purchased this ZT 0562 from an individual online. Everything looked good to go in the pictures I saw, but upon receiving the knife I noticed that this particular example has Elmax steel and no steel lockbar insert, although it looks like someone tried to partially drill through the lockbar? The lack of the latter makes me suspicious that this might be a clone. Any ZT gurus are welcomed to chime in.

Never heard KAI manufactured any versions of ZT 0562 without a steel lockbar insert.

G10 0562s had Elmax blades IIRC so that checks...It could be that the lock insert is missing leaving a hole in the bar where the attachment screw is as well?

If the lock bar insert was missing I doubt the folder would lock up correctly.

Not sure how to upload pics on here from my phone. I noticed a couple of other thing amiss; the pivot screws do not look like the ones I've seen on other 562's and the knife weighs about 1.5oz heavier (7 oz) than its supposed to. That's because the lockbar side that is supposed to be titanium is actually steel because a magnet will not stick to it. Good lord this just reeks of a fake.

Wait....What?
If a magnet will not stick to the lock side, that is every indication that it is Titanium.
I use photobucket for uploading pics.

Perhaps it's a 0566 which is a steel frame lock (first one below). 0562 always had titanium with steel lock bar insert (second one below).

I have a number of ZTs and no part of that fit and finish and machining looks like ZT to me.

When I posted earlier I made a mistake. A magnet WILL stick to the lockbar side. Here is a side picture where you can see the odd lockbar and pivot screw. www.4GP.ME/ba3s/1490188669745.jpg lockup with no insert www.4GP.ME/ba3s/149018920728.jpg Full side view www.4GP.ME/ba3s/1490189640902.jpg

Sorry brother if its magnetic on the whole lock bar side ( thats my interpretation of what you are saying) Its a clone. I have both the elmax and the 204p and they both have a lock bar insert. Plus the " thumb stud " on most of the 0562s are not rounded but almost "domed", for a lack of a better term. Not smooth and rounded like the one in the picture. Plus that pivot and blade lettering look off. Hope this helps..

I'm looking at one of the popular clone sites right now and found the 0562 and the only difference is there's no hole in the lock bar for the insert, but it almost looks like yours was drilled as an afterthought.
Maybe to install the insert to give it a level of authenticity??
Whatever the case, the clone states that it weighs 185g or 6.526oz.
You've most likely got a clone.
But the upside is if you didn't pay any more than 25 bucks (new price on the clone site) you didn't get totally screwed.
Oh, and that "elmax" is a 9cr variant.

I've held a couple of 562's in hand before and this thing felt like a friggin' brick compared to those. That's what initially made me suspicious. I think the 562 is only spec'd at like 5.5 oz? This abomination was right at 7 oz. on my scale. Then I noticed the funky pivot screws, then the lack of a lockbar insert. Really just a sad attempt at copying a legit ZT.

I agree, and the thumb studs don't go all the way back to the scales when open, the lbs location looks slightly off to me, the lockbar cutout is all wrong, the pivot screw is off, the materials are off (magnetic and heavy), no lockbar insert. Sorry you got a fake. ZT knives are definitely worth trying, they make an excellent knife.
