ZT S110V Mirror Finish

That is sick. How do you like the chosera over the standard stones for the EP? Probably better feel but more maintance? Same question on the sharpton? In other words, what would you recommend collecting after the standard EP stones and why?

Last question, do you free hand strop or do it on the EP?

Thanks for your post.

I was an avid Lansky user many moons ago - just could not justify the price of an EP Pro - eventually took the plunge and over the years have collected & collected etc....

Here is some pics of some years back - time to update it I reckon:

I find the Shapton GS stones to be the best (especially on the more abrasion resistant steels).

I freehand strop my blades as maintenance between physical stone sharpening - this could last up to 6 months, depending on severity of use.

I might just add that I strop any blade used during the day, at the end of the day - it's like my evening coffee/rum - routine - works well.

:)

Nice edge! I still watch your stop collar vid everytime before I get out the EP.

Ok. Just ordered the shapton GS 320,500,1000,4000,8000, and 16000. They were out of the 2000. I will have to get that later. Did not get the 30k because it was $250 or about the cost of all the other stoned together. I will just strop. Do you think you would miss that stone in your progression? Any problem that you see with my progression? I forgot to mention that I would balsa strop with 1, 0.5, and 0.25 micron diamond spray and finally with leather.

I appreciate the advice.

Do you ever use anything like a belt sander for "roughing in" a bevel??

Negative - I use absolutely NO powered tools - all pure "elbow grease" done by hand.

Depending on the blade steel, bevel setting would normally start with either the Atoma #140 or #400.

:)

100% good setup, once the 2k is included.

If you want the ultimate mirror, then get the 30k, but for pure sharpness levels it is an overkill IMHO.

I would recommend the Atoma #140 if you do not have one yet - just makes life a breeze when setting bevels/removing chips.

:)
