ZT warranty blade replacement question

ZT will replace your blade for $30 (current models only), but I'm curious if anyone knows the answer to the following question, or has experience with this:
(I called, but they are gone for the weekend)

If I send my 0450CF in for blade replacement, is there any way I could perhaps pay an additional charge and get either the new ZDP-189 blade or the satin S35VN blade?
This black coated blade is not doing it for me, and I'll most likely be sending it off for a regrind once I get it back, either way.

Anyone ever done a warranty blade replacement and upgraded it to a blade swap...?

I was just about to ask the same question
Just sent my kershaw in for blade replacement.

Don't start none, won't be none

Better ask to be sure. However, I think replacing the blade of the 0450CF with the one from 0450 is a real possibility for $30. I very much doubt they'd replace it for the ZDP-189 blade of 0450CFZDP since they have limited stock and it's much pricier.

Of course, you could sell your 0450CF and get a 0450CFZDP while they're still available.

Aww shoot! Not even if I paid the difference?

I have an email in to them, so I guess we'll find out next week... I was just hoping someone could tell me sooner whether it's even an option.
I'd take the satin blade, but the ZDP would be fun, since I have no experience with that steel

Generally speaking, replacement blades are limited to the same blade, plain or coated, unserrated or unserrated. Not sure about the newer finishes like acidwash.

BM charges more for coated version.

Gonna have to buy the knife again for an upgraded steel.

I dont know what steel the 450 comes in or ZT policy, so cant help you.

Almost certain they will not swap the blade wth the zdp version even if you wanted to pay a fee. And I highly doubt they would swap it with the standard satin S35vn blade the 0450 comes with.

ZT used to replace a broken blade with a sterile blade (no markings) and have been lasering the logo, model and even the serial on most replacement blade as of late. But never hurts to ask...

With Benchmade, that is a "Sort of right" type of answer.

Benchmade will take a previous Custom Shop knife (made from their custom shop on their website), and swap in a new M4 or M390 blade for just the cost of the upgrade over your original Custom price.

However, they Will Not upgrade a stock griptilian for the cost differential.

Fair enough!
I'd certainly settle for the satin S35VN blade. Sterile would be a bonus :)

I sent my 0566 back to ZT in June. I paid the $30 and they replaced the blade. Their website says you get a sterile blade with no markings, that's not the case. I got a brand new blade with all marking and even had the same serial number.
I talked to CS and they no longer do sterile blades and will not change the blade finish. It's an exact replacement of what you send in. I was more than happy with the service. It took about 6 weeks though.

Just curious as to why you sent it in for replacement. Did you really thrash it up or was it cracked or something else altogether?

I let a local " knife sharpener" sharpen it and he completely jacked it up. Tip was completely rounded and about a quarter inch shorter. My OCD wouldnt let me sleep at night.

Thanks...it's all good now. Went ahead and had them send me all new handle screws and pivot, and bought an orange Allen Putman scales. Now she's brand new and looking great.
