I Currently work in a knife shop and We (I) Do sharpening for the store. I got a call about a ZT0200 that had the tip broken off (from user error) upon inspection i noticed a hairline crack in the knife right at the thumbstud and all the way to the spine. I was just wondering if there was a problem with the ZT0200 as i have heard of 2-3 other cases (from members on this forum) where the knife cracked at the same spot as the knife i am working on. I apologize for the pictures i am by no means good with a camera.

I doubt it's anything specific to the 0200. I know there have been a few threads about it happening to other knives -- a ZT 0300, a Strider or two, maybe others -- and the sample size is so small that it's likely just chance that the ZT 0200 has had one or two more threads about this happening.

It might have something to do with the way that it is machined and heat treated, but that is just a guess. more than likely it was just a bad batch of steel.

The 0200 doesn't use its thumb stud as the bladestop so there shouldn't any real stress on that part of the blade.

I would say a bad heat treat like the other gentlemen said.

Not bad heat treat - thumstud was slightly larger than intended thumbstud-hole.

That's all.

ZT will replace at no charge, of course. (Or you've got an excuse to wave it now! ha.)
