ZT0550 questions!

well tried to loosen the pivot screw and ended up twisting my t9-bit to pieces and the screw didnt budge or strip? what the hell is this thing made of LOL

ill have to find another bit tomorrow and try it again. it must be in there pretty tight because even after i open the blade a little, gravity wont pull the blade the rest of the way out

what is the detent hole and what kind of oil?

sorry for all the nooby questions!

I'd leave the pivot screw alone the blade will loosen up with a little time.
The detent hole is a small indention in the blade which a steel ball bearing rest in while the blade is closed.

Try get the clip off of the frame lock it will make the knife easier to open.

Really, it's all about technique with the 0550 . I'd make sure your technique is correct before screwing with the pivot. What most people are doing when having difficulty opening the 0550 is putting pressure on the lock bar while simultaneously trying to open the blade. Make sure you're not putting ANY pressure on the lockbar when opening. Try opening the knife without the stud (two handed) - if it's smooth then you need to work on your 1 hand technique. It's an awesome blade and soon to be discontinued. Enjoy it and be glad you have one👍

i also got a 0550 (gen 3) for christmas from my gf. love it. awesome knife! i kind of had a difficult time opening it as well. it was awkward to grip it and flip it open without having my fingers on the lock bar. in my natural grip on the knife i had my finger tips right on the lock bar. i moved my clip to the tip down position so when hold the knife i can tuck my fingers right up next to the clip and off the lock bar. you really have to watch your grip and make sure your not pushing on the lock bar at all when trying to flick it open. and as other have said flip more upward than out.

i saw a video review of this knife here:

in the video his knife just flys right open and its the same knife as mine. is this how its supposed to work?

Mine now works like the knife in the pic. Mine is the 3rd Gen with the steel lockbar insert....Looks like you have a 2nd Gen......

With time, mine now opens even if my fingers are touching the lockbar.....Just give it time. It is a great knife.

oh yep i see now the screw on the lockbar isnt there on mine. im sure 2nd gens will break in like that also. im very impatient, been opening it over and over all day

The pivot screw could be just stuck with lock tight you can dip the pivot into boiling water and then unscrew it, just need to break it loose.

honestly ive never done much except for collect case knives, never had one of these apart. how do i know how loose is too lose? im worried about voiding my warranty

you just tighten it back hand tight not cranking on it like a gorilla at a springfield guns factory. tighten it snug then see how it feels, if its not loose enough back it off a 1/8th of a turn and try it again. Just do that until you have it where you like it.

You won't void your warranty by adjusting the pivot. It's mean to be adjustable.

Oh... and mine (which is a gen2) opens like the one in this vid. Did so right out of the box. But again, if you'll note, the guy in the vid pushes "forward" on the the thumbstud when he opens it... not out at a 45* angle.
