ZT0609 and the future

Does anyone think that in the future a ZT0606 sized knife will be released by ZT?

When the 0450 came out it was a smaller version of one of the custom/limited edition knives (0454) and then later on an equivalently sized model came out, the 0452.

I really like the 0609. The blade looks great but the knife is a tad small for me, I really like my folders in ~4" range. After the 0452s came out I eventually sold all my 0450s because I just didn't see the point, the 452s do everything better with no downsides.

I really want to like the 0609 and it looks bigger than the dimensions say but I'd hate to get a couple only for a variant to be released in the future that is sized the same as the now gone 0606. Are the odds good that will happen?

We can only speculate, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they made future limited run 0606 variants.

I wouldn’t be surprised either if they do something like that eventually but they’ll probly call it the 0629 or something different

Doubt it. The 0606 sold rather slow (the Blackout Version at least) , and I don't see them going back to an old design. I really wanted one but two things kept me from buying one A. the Price (it was like 750$ here in Europe) B. the lack of a tool for disassembly.
I can totally see another large RJ Martin Collaboration in the future though. ZT tends to have a sweet spot in the 3.5 - 4 in range anyway and the smaller knives only came when people were asking for them constantly. But it might be a while, since they don't have the capacity for more at the moment (Which I frankly find idiotic, just as I find it a dumb excuse coming from CRK, but that's a different story.)

Just wait for the next emerson/zt collaboration. I have a feeling it will be more streamlined and smooth action with a blade length above 3.5.

Fuck it, I ordered one with a 920.

If a full size one comes out later I'll jsut sell.

Not more limited versions of the 606, but a "regular production" model that was patterned after the 606 with more everyday materials. Just like how the 454 was a custom then we got the 0450 which was a smaller, everyday materials/construction version.

Well, it sold well and then we got the 0452 which had the same exact dimensions as the 0454 but again used "regular" materials/construction. I would like to see a "pedestrian" 0606 show up like the 0452 to the 0454.

My 0606 came in today. I love it! It does feel a little bit bigger than the paper stats say with just .15" in blade length over the 0450s and I like how thin it is (many people complain about ZT blade thickness) and it cuts well. I just love this blade design....beauty and function.

That being said.....a 3.9" - 4.1" version would be very, very welcome. This 0606 is a nice EDC though for most I imagine. After putting it next to this 0920 I just keep imagining the possibilities of a scaled up 0606......

It’s hard to imagine ZT making a full size production 0606. One of the things that made the LE 0606 special were the pivot cartridges hand finished by Matt Martin. I think they pushed the envelope by releasing the downsized 0609, if they did a full sized 0606 with a production, full-size pivotless pivot it would undermine the value of the hand finished ones. I hope ZT lets the 0606 model rest.

It IS possible, just look at the 454. It got us the 450 and then eventually we got the 452.
The 606 got us the 609. Maybe we can get a "less special" version of the 606 eventually.

Did the debut of the 452 take away from the 454 in any way?

I could see a 0606 maybe with a simplified handle, maybe similar to the 0920 contoured with some mill lines, maybe with a machine satin finish and a regular pivot. Although that's more wishful thinking on my part.

Every knife has to stand on its own but I think the 0454 was diminished by the flood of 0450s and 0452s. I have no hard evidence but it seems resale values on 0454s have flattened and dropped.

I’d love the original 0600 but would want one less if ZT revisited the design with a production version. I’m kinda glad ZTs never gone back to that model.

I think the 0392 series showed us that every time you dip in the well and revisit a design, the desirability of all the knives in the series is hurt. The last models in the series sold like dogs.

Sometimes it’s best if a knife is just left by itself and not made part of a series to generate revenue.

Of course, my opinion might be swayed because I was lucky enough to score a 0606.

So, you look at it from a collector's standpoint then. You hope they don't release more knives because you want your 0606 to appreciate in value.

The 0606 was not a knife I'd ever buy. It was what I'd consider an art knife---too nice to use. Just like the 0454. What I want is a knife with those dimensions and a pedestrian handle and a blade from M390/20CV. Something that I wouldn't be afraid to put in my pocket every day for weeks on end.

Granted, I do a bit of collecting as well. Any ZT I really like I buy two of instead of just one. One to go into the use rotation and one to be squirreled away and kept mint. I'm not into the high-end artsy stuff though because I know what I'd do; I've been there. I just can't bring myself to ever do anything with them but look at them.

I don't think ZT will release models or not based on the secondary market either as they want to increase their own sales and will look at things accordingly. I guess in an indirect way they can be considered though because the "knife flippers" can play a role in initial sales too since I'm sure a lot of limited editions and sprint runs that sell out fast are due to many people speculating on those knives.

The "reseller" part of the high end knife world sure is irritating to us normal guys.

I’ve never sold a knife.
