ZT0770cf pivot question

Hi all,

I recently got a ZT 0770cf M390 and love it so far. One thing annoys me is that the pivot screw becomes loose very often due to the vibration of Speedsafe opening.

Does anyone have the same issue with Speedsafe knives?
Also, would it be fine to add threadlocker to the pivot screw?

Any input would be appreciated:)

Blue Loctite is the one you want. Plenty strong enough to hold it in place and easy enough to break through with hand tools if you want to take it a part.

The main reason why the pivot loosens up is because there's no way for the female screw sleeve to lock into place, so it'll spin with the male screw head when even a little amount of torque is introduced, and the friction of the knife opening is enough to cause that pivot to come loose. I remedied it by placing the SLIGHTEST amount of loctite on the back of the female pivot's head, so it sticks to the scale. Literally all it takes is about two pin-sized dabs. Let it cure and the pivot won't spin when you try to disassemble, and it shouldn't come loose either, but with enough of pressure it should come off and allow you to fully remove it should you so desire.

Like everyone else said, blue Loctite

I need to pick some up this weekend.

Wow! Thanks bunch, everyone!

I will put a tiny bit of threadlocker to it and see if it is sufficient.
Otherwise, I will try teflon tape.

I couldn't find Locktite in my region so bought something similar.
It is not blue but purple:)
Hope that it still works fine......

Purple Loctite is the low strength, blue is the medium. Stay away from red as you will need heat to break through it.

Permatex is a similar brand and the blue version works just the same.

Not sure what you got but make sure that it only takes hand tools to remove the screw.

As Scurvy said, make sure you give the threadlocker time to cure (check the instructions for whichever one you picked up), otherwise it won't do anything. Thread seal tape also works well and doesn't need a curing time. I usually wrap it about 3 layers thick, and that has held well on several of my knives.

Permatex it is.
The store had only the purple one.
I will give it a try, and if it doesn't work, I will put some teflon tape around the screw.
Thanks again for your suggestions and kindness!
I will let you know how it turns out.

Hi Guys,

I tried Permatex purple and feel that the screw stays tight now.
Although it was a bit tough not to play with my favorite knife while letting the chemical cure (and I had to stay in a bed due to a flu), it was worth a wait!
Thanks again for your help!

Purple works just fine, that's the kind Chris Reeve Knives uses (and supplies, though they use the Milspec version). It has a lower torque resistance (I believe 10-20lbs) so it is easier to take apart after the fact but may not hold as tight. I think you'll be fine, just keep an eye on it.

That is good to hear. I guess I was a bit paranoid at the time and might have added too much of the chemical against the recommendations from the people here....... Me stupid......

Blue loctite worked for me as well. Prior to that remedy the pivot was a merry-go-round for fleas.

This was all before I lost it of course.

I think that I saw your stating it has been found somewhere. Hope that is true.
Best,

John-
Great info, thanks for posting it. I learn something everyday on BF.

A spring washer or an o-ring can also be used to secure the screw. IMO it is better than Loctite or teflon tape (it can be easily disassembled and assembled again without replacing). I use an o-ring in Kershaw Blur, works very well.

cali,

Thank you for the suggestion.
Would it make the pivot screw sticking out a bit from the scale?
