I recently received my zt 0850. The whole knife looks good. The only problem is that when the blade is fully extended, it is not locking or at least not properly locking. The only way to lock the blade is pulling the blade to the very end and pushing the lock into the position. When I swinging it in the air(not intensely), the blade switch back and deeply cut into my finger. I wonder if anyone have faced the same issues as I do

Pictures are in #12

You might have lint in the knife, I had that issue with my 0055, where you could flip it open but it didn't fully lock, there was some lint in the space where the stop pin would engage and kept it from properly engaging the lockbar. Also don't swing knife if you have problems with the lock (ideally never if there is no need). Also, pictures would help

Sounds like the lock insert needs to be ground down a bit if it isn't snapping into place on the blade tang. That's something that ZT will need to fix for you.

On a side note, what do you mean by "swinging it in the air"? Are you saying you're using a flick of the wrist to help open the blade?

Please post pictures if you can. You can post them on imgur for free and link them here.

I've never had lint build up that much in a knife. How much lint is in your pockets on a regular basis? haha

Seems that the picture failed. I didn’t expect that lock has problem when it came out of the box though. I realised that after getting hurt. I admit it is not proprietate to swing a folding knife. It feels tip heavy and I naturally swing it. My bad ;p

It wasn't really built up, I wear zip up hoodies around the house a bit and often toss the knife into the pocket without the clip, since the lint accumulates at the bottom it was just a lucky hit to get just that one piece of lint stuck right where it landed. Like a little cotton tumbleweed :D

If it doesn't lock up properly in normal operation (i.e. you use the thumb barrel thing to extend the blade to the open position) you should send it back to ZT, I'm sure they will fix it.

That said, the swinging it in the air part of your post has me wondering if it might not be the way you're operating it, as opposed to a manufacturing defect.

Mine locks up properly any way that I open it, but of course yours could be a lemon--every manufacturer puts out the odd lemon, even CREWK (Chris Reeve's Ex-Wife's Knives) has had the occasional defective knife ship out.

I'd check the stop pin and the tang, see if there really isn't anything obstructing engagement at the top.

Zt are known for some of these issues. My 0850 rattles and Flys out super easy due to poor detent. Also the lockbar is a bit weak and really early lockup. With the lockbar having long travel along the tang if pressed on. It's a fun knife they really need to get rid of the revolver theme though.

Hopefully they will fix it in warranty. It would be helpful to show what it did to your hand to make sure they actually do a good job fixing it.

Yep, looks like the lock bar insert wasn't even ground from the factory. I wish I could say I was surprised...

Fill out the form and send it to KAI for warranty. Hopefully they'll fix it and not just send it back to you.
