I have a zt450 I recently bought. I like the knife alot but it just lacks the cool factor after a bit. I was looking at benchmades and really like the cool factor of the 940-1 plus it's s90v. My question is is one better than the other for edc or should just keep the zt and get a different knife for edc?

Personally? I'd take the 940-1 easily over the 0450. But I dislike metal scales and titanium framelocks and I really like the Axis lock, so I'm not exactly unbiased.

I found that my 940-1 is cool, but its just too small for me, I like bigger blades, 3.5" , I have smaller knives my zt 566 and my DPx 2.0 Triple Black Folder are the smallest I like, for everything else my zt 562, xm 18, sebenza, I do use my 940-1 but its when I need to hide a knife

The 940-1 is nice and if you like light that's the one. I sold my 940-1 a while back and the the 0450 and larger 0452 are on my radar.

The 940-1 has a 3.4" blade.

Thanks for the repluse guys. Who has better customer service? Could I buy a new blade replacement if something catastrophic happens to it? Not that I'm hard on my knifes but it's always nice for a piece of mind type thing.

I have only had to send benchmades back for service after an axis long broke. But they fixed it and tuned up 3 other knives i sent in. Sharpening all, putting new clips and replacing screws on them all and I only had to pay for shipping to them. I also got several pocket clips from BM just by emailing them. ZT sent me a pocket clip but BM had better communication regarding the pocket clip request.
But I hear zt does have great warrenty service. Both are far better than spyderco's. I didnt own the 940-1but I had a 940 and it was an excellent knife. I was never a fan of flippers or mono/frame locks but that 450 is great to carry and fun to open. With a deep carry pocket clip the knive becomes even better IMO.I feel the 450 could take a bit more abuse than the BM. Granted I do occasionally get a scratch from the tip of the 450. If I grab the knife from my pocket and try to open it quickly I hold it in my hand to firm and pus the bottom of the knife in my palm. The blade to handle size is so big when the blade comes out it hits my skin.

As for a a carry knife thats light and good in pocket both are equal. Warranty they are both equal I suppose but the 940 axis lock can get that knife open as fast as the 450 but it also closes right away unlike the 450. Add a deep carry clip to the 940 and it would be even better.

I am also a fan of the 904 and 908 BM. More sturdy and can take a better beating than both knives. A bit less expensive as well so you wont mind thrashing on it.

I have had both for quite some time and find the 940-1 better in every way for an EDC. I even bought a carbon fiber scale for my 0450 and I still rarely carry it. I guess in the end it comes down to ergos, and I find the 0450 to be a bit cramped and the flipper only isn't always ideal. Both BM and ZT sent me free deep carry clips no questions asked, and I'd assume both customer service departments are as good as they get. Not sure what you mean by "cool factor", but the big brother 0452cf is about as cool as they get, and one of my favorite knives.

Been carrying my Mantra2 a lot more than either of these though ;)

Thanks for all the replies it is greatly appreciated. After seeing your picture of both side by side it makes me want to just keep the zt and buy the 940-1! I was able to get my first true tree topping and whittling with ease edge tonight on the zt...now it has a sentimental value....decisions decisions. Abba do you feel the bm is worth over 100 more?

I think that the idea of worth is very subjective with any knife after you get over the $100 price point with good materials such as these. I bought the 940-1 for $200 used and as soon as I got it I knew I would have no buyers remorse, but their are certainly better values out there than either of these knives IMO. (Manix2 LW S110v or Gayle Bradley 2 come to mind when I think of value!)

I had both and sold the ZT0450. Now that its gone I do miss it. I guess that is the true test, sell it and then if you miss it, buy it back. As for the 940-1, I don't think I will ever sell it. The ZT is capable of heavier duty work while the BM is built a little softer.

Both companies have fantastic customer service so no worries there!

I have owned several zt0450 but find the blade too short for me. My zt0452cf is a keeper. I do like the looks of the new zt0450cf.

Nevermind.

My vote is for the 450. I found the reverse tanto of the 940 to offer nothing but hinder slicing. I guess it reinforces the tip but what kind of heavy penetration are you gonna do with a 940?

I have and love both. Biggest issue with the 0450CF is that there are no thumb studs. Personal preference though, still love it!
