hi all,

this one is ´a bit different´ to my usual work-
so- why did I make it?

-the raven is one of my favorite animals, I admire his cleverness and the ability to learn.
-and he plays the mainpart in this poem: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Raven

to create an hommage to the poem of e.a.poe was a longtime-brainstorming,
but finally I got an imagination how to portray the nightmare of that poor young man.

the knife:
W1 with forged T-spine
bronze-skull carved, not cast
ebony
39cm/15inch long

feather and shield:
wood and bronze

the display:
ash-wood and moosebone

thanks for looking!

gerhard

You guys never cease to amaze me on this forum with your custom blades.....

One of the best looking knives I have ever seen

I am continually amazed at the imagination, dedication, and craftsmanship of knifemakers. This is an incredible piece.

Unglaublich!! This is art made equal to it's highest form. Absolutely wonderful.

Very nice tribute set to a man tormented by things unseen and unspoken with love both forelorn and forbidden. Interesting choice. You tread a road that can lead in many directions. Your path led to a beautiful knife and tokens of display. Excellent job Sir. You have done well tracing the madness he encapsulated. To Poe the bird actually spoke. Your knife ensconces that emulation.

That bird skull is killer, and I'm loving the vertebrae continued onto the knife spine. Beautiful in every way.

Now this just made me say......WOWWTFBBQ!
And I'm not a real big fan of art knives. Theres a simplistic ruggedness about this that it could be a knife that one would use, but just enough art to be intriguing.
The only thing that would make this just a little bit cooler would be a Victorian style small ink bottle and the feather made into a functional quill pen. Neither would be hard to do with your talent and eye.

"Quoth the Raven.....Nevermore"
