💥Blast from the Past💥 (unofficial nostalgic older knife thread)

Puma 8101-"Lang" (long version) Texas Bill throwing scout knife from the early 1950's.
Very rare, especially in this condition.

Texas Bill was the main character in a series of German Wild-West novels from that era:

That "DBGM" kind of like a patent marking was last "Issued" in 1953, but you could use it for 3 years, so no later than 1956. John

Interesting that it is marked Germany instead of West Germany.

I have a German copy of a Marbles Ideal knife. On one side of the tang it is marked "Gazelle" in a stylized diamond. On the other side of the tang it is marked "Krusius" "Solingen Germany" and below that "British Zone". Solingen fell into the British Controlled Zone of Germany, which I think lasted until 1956. The sheath is just marked "Made in Germany". John

Here is another that some of us will remember. The MCR-11 was Taylor's knock of of the original Cold Steel Tanto. They were made in Japan by Seto. I acquired this one in 1983.

IIRC, Cold Steel ran an immediate ad in Blade Magazine showing a broken MCR-11 and warning people to avoid imitations. (they later ran a very similar ad against the Buck 184 Buckmaster)

That’s impressive! Everything I carried in my teens has horrible blade scratches from bad sharpening. They’re all sharp, but look like 10 miles of bad road.
Thanks. Truth be told this is one of the very few survivors from my teen years. It cost me almost a weeks pay so it was well looked after.
Sadly many of my others were sold or lost, including a few I wish I still had.........
