Very nice. I've been missing my SK-5 TM I sold to a friend and have been wanting to replace it with the O1 model.

I'm loving the lustrous satin finish. This is immediately high on my want list. You guys are getting too much of my money!

Dang it! Got tired of waiting and bought my first Trailmaster last night.....SK-5. I suppose the kukri wont be far behind and a man could never have too many kukri......

Must be where you live, my O-1 blades don't rust any more than any other, which is not much unless I really neglect them.

Might have to go aftermarket for a sheath though.

I don't have a release date yet. It's a rolling change to the new steel so you may see these release gradually over a few months

Appreciate the info, gorgeous knife. May go for one of these and forego the premium many in Carbon V seem to be priced at.

Uncoated? Hmmm.... will rust while you watch.

I'm not to familiar with O1 but I have heard it is kind of a rust magnet but is it any more prone to rust than 1095? I have an uncoated machete made of 1095 that I never oil (though I do clean it off after use) and have had no problem with rust.

Why is this O1 any more exciting than SK5, or the old Carbon V, for that matter??

Hell, they didn't even bother with doing the SRK in SK5. Glad mine in Carbon V will last forever. ,<G>

O-1 has more carbon, more chromium, tungsten, and vanadium as well as more minute purifying elements. it will be more wear resistant than SK5 and probably stronger

Ive harassed cold steel numerous times about the srk/recon tanto in an inferior stainless if theyre coated whats the point of not going carbon steel, and im guessing the not using their bulk buying of aus8 would cut into their profits, nevermind the performance. i have 2 carbon v srks

Sorry to steal this thread, but I've been out of the tactical and camp/survival knife arena for a while. Been into high zoot Japanese kitchen knives. Now that I have all of those I'll ever need, I'm back sniffing around. I've just noticed that all the newer Trail Masters, even the San Mai, indicate that the handle material is Kray ex, rather than Kraton. Is this actually different than Kraton and if so, how. Or is this just another "new" invention by LT?

I asked about the Kray-Ex in another thread, never got any comments. I'm wondering if it is harder/softer than the original Kraton.

Heh...that's what I'm wondering. Although Kraton has gotten it's share of criticism, I always got along with it OK. I just don't want to pay over a hundred bucks for a Trail Master or something and find that the Kray-Ex is hard as rock or soft as a marshmallow. Shrug.
