0-1 Trail Master - Shipping Now!

I have a plsk1 in 01 and rust isn't an issue and I live on an island off the coast of Canada....I just wipe it of after use and if stored for a while I coat with a little oil, the same as my 1095 blades..the only issue I have had with rust was on a brkt Bravo1 in A2...for some reason that thing makes rust in the blink of an eye...I have to oil it all the time to keep it clean! But anyways I am sure rust won't be much of an issue.

Kray-Ex is our own polymer.
It performs very similarly to Kraton.
We made the switch a few years back

Can you specifiy when the switch was made as I have an older model recon scout and srk in carbon v and the handles seem different then those on my newer srk and master hunter vg10. Is there a difference or is it all in my mind?

If memory serves it was about 2 years ago.
You would need to talk to our customer services team for more specific info. They are much more knowledgeable than me.

ah ok, well that makes sense as I got the srk and the MH about a year ago so there could be a difference. Thanks for the info.

Oh my loving God...TWO things Ive been waiting for...Good old HC steel Trailmasters to come back, and CS to actually be on BF!!...Miracles never cease!!...Now for the ULTIMATE chopp off...CS Gurka in Sk5/01 vs. HIMIMP 18in. CAK...a 47 year old knife freak can dream....Love ya CS!!

BTW: Monitor, can you address the old Carbon V habit of "pitting" vs. the new 01 corrosion variables? Is 01 more likely to develop patina, then red surface, then destructive pitting characteristics, or go right to developing those dredded black craters right off the bat?

I use EEZOX on all my C5 stuff, and a simple light coat of Vaseline for long term storage, w/frequent checks.

im not the mod, but, metalurgically speaking, a small amount of chromium and tungsten are in o 1 so it should be a little better at corrosion resistance

I'll be after one in the near future. I'm sorta enamored with O1, on a non-scientific basis, it produces quality edges for me, and takes a nice, thick patina, that wards off rust, and edge retention is more than serviceable. I have no beef with Taiwanese products, and feel that Taiwan Voyagers are better for me than the ones of Japanese origin. I think these offer a good amount of knife for the price. SK-5 is decent, but I recognize O1 better, and have more time with it.

Now the only thing missing? A version available with a full convex grind, and Stag, or Linen Micarta, or stacked leather handles.

I had an older San Mai III trailmaster, and a convex edge is a thing of beauty! Especially for maintenance!

Stag would be nice, as would any sort of Micarta, I'm a sucker for Micarta. The Convex grind would be nice, Fallkniven, and BRKT, as well as Busse, turned me on the whole convex craze, some time ago. I think the O1 Trailmaster is too good, for just one variation.

Is there any way to tell the difference between the SK-5 and O-1 Versions. I just got one that is supposedly in O-1 but it looks exactly like the SK-5 one I got less than a year ago. Is "O-1" stamped on the blade? Help?

Any 0-1 knives will be clearly marked on the blade.
I took a picture of one of the Trail Masters here in the office for you...

I love 01 steel! Would love a leather handled version of the Trailmaster. It would give the Fallkniven Thor some competition at a hopefully cheaper-than-Fallkniven price!
Actually i prefer the Trailmasters flat grind over the convex used by Fallkniven so in my book that would be another win for CS.

I just ordered one!! Very excited for this knife. I have an old 99 version Trailmaster in Carbon V. Skipped the SK5 version, but O1 got me to pull the trigger on a new one.

I'm curious if the O-1 steel is the Daido YK 30 steel like used by CRKT in their taiwan plants. That country doesn't have their own steel foundries and most of their steel is imported. Did Cold Steel import their own steel or source O-1 locally?

Mod? Is this considered confidential?

I know it's Mar tempered as was the later batch of SK 5 spring steel. Is this correct? I'm trying to figure out what I have, which is which and what I need next. Thanks.
