I'd second the Scrap Yard 511 . It's 3/16 thick , but Scrap Yard make VERY hard use knives . They are up for sale on thier site right now and you can get one and odred the sheath with it for less than the price you want to spend .
This. Scrap Yard can't be beat for the value, and toughness. Warranty is tops.
I'm gonna say check the custom makers again. I have seen several kwaikens in that size range, and priced in your budget. Why not try making one yourself?! Immensely satisfying, budget friendly, and a true custom tailored knife for your needs. Pick up an old leaf spring, build a bonfire to anneal it, get a high tension hacksaw, 4" angle grinder and a big file followed by some sandpaper. Chisel grind, cord wrapped and you got a knife! Where in Tx are you? Many makers here in TX that would be more than happy to help you make one or at least heat treat it for you.

Since the 511 is 5.5 blade long, Do you think it's legal for Texas carry (5.5"). I don't know wether its SMALLER than 5.5" or 5.5" OR SMALLER for legal carry in Tx
you could also check out the scrapyard Dumpster Mutt, S5 (my fav), yard keeper, and from Swamprat, the Ratmandu (other fav), Howling Rat, Rodent 4
If you want to take the plunge into Bussekin, shoot me an email and I can help you out a few different ways.
