All that I can say.... well. Words are beyond me, but here's a smilie: :barf:
This is total BS.
That's about 5.41%.
I understand that higher charges will have a lower fee, I think, but this is getting out of hand.

Okay, I guess it's not that bad.
Here's a cut and paste of the current fee schedule:
$0.00 USD-$3,000.00 USD 2.9% + $0.30 USD
$3,000.01 USD-$10,000.00 USD 2.5% + $0.30 USD
$10,000.01 USD-$100,000.00 USD 2.2% + $0.30 USD
> $100,000.00 USD 1.9% + $0.30 USD

SO, IMO, anyone charging 3.5% or 4% is overcharging fees.

I could have told you that.

And who would paypal someone $100,000?

That would be a $1900 paypal fee!

Aren't there cheaper ways of transfering money?

Seems totally fair to me and is in line with what cc companies charge. I mean if it were much cheaper it would be free. Just my .02

arent there varying charges if a person uses different forms of payment? ie, credit card, echeck, or direct transfer?

Some banks charge $5 or $6 for a money order or cashier's check. Not all of them, but some of the bigger one's.

The post office charges 95 cents up to $500 plus you have to mail it. An international money order costs $3.45 + postage. You can usually get a money order cheaper at most super-markets, but I don't know if they are accepted out of the USA.

I sometimes ask for 3% for PayPal, but usually I just eat the fee. I don't understand why people charge 3.5 or 4%. They aren't going to get rich on the small percentage and I think it causes hard feelings.

paypal hits me with 3.5-3.6% fees + 0.30, not 3% fees. maybe it's different for overseas users.

Mine charged me $8 for a cashier's check:eek:
Got my jaws tight but I needed to do it so you suck it up and deal with It I guess.

Good attitude:thumbup:

I could do that as I only sell a few knives a month worth only a few $$ but since I don't accept PP as a form of payment anyway, it's a moot point:p

I could see where it would make a difference with guys that sell thousands of $$ worth of knives every month. Under those conditions. Waving the PP fees would add up quick in a month.

just my .02

Aren´t those total amounts transferred over certain period of time?

3% PayPal fee on a $500 sale = $15.00 to the recipient. No charge for the sender from PP (if you are using bank funds).

USPS Money Order: cost around $1.00 to the sender. Makes the sender take time in their day to go to the PO. (Maybe go to the bank first!)

No fee to the recipient. But.....

As the recipient (seller) I have to wait for this M.O. to arrive by mail. As quickly as two days, and as slowly as getting lost in the mail completely.

Now the stress of waiting, especially when there is a problem is a real 'cost', and the time that this money is unavailable to me is measured in small dollars comparatively. On top of that, now I must make time to go to MY bank or P.O. to turn this M.O. into my money. Either way takes up time once again.

I know I run a very busy compressed scheduled life. Saving me trips to the bank and the ability to have my money in my hands immediately is well worth the feeble $15 fee that PP rightly charges.

To the point of the original poster that $.65 is undue; man, that's pocket change for the time it saves. I don't get the gripe. Really.

I never ever ask a buyer to even split the cost in PP. I think it's a benefit to me and the cost of the transaction. I think folks wanting this extra fee do not realize the importance of time and availability in $.

If one limited themselves to $500 a month, and didn't accept credit card paypal. It's still free.

Hate it, but use it some since there is no other compitition to use.

Why did they charge you 5.41% ? Then you checked it and said never charge over 3%. 3% is what I charge on US orders.

That is the problem I have with them. The hidden Fee's, I never know what they are going to charge.

"Cross the Border Fee's" have got me on the last 2 to canada. They do not even show it untill you hit payment details link.

One had a USA PO so I didn't know to add it on that one.
Both were glad to pay the "Cross the border fee", told them they didn't have to pay but could if they wanted.
I will gladly sell to either of these again though now that we know about the
"Cross the Border Fee"

I agree 100% with what Coop said. My time is much more valuable than the small percentage that PayPal charges for what is almost always a pretty secure transaction with people I don't really know. (Of course I am speaking as a 'Buyer', mostly, because in 8 years of collecting I have only sold 2 knives. :) ) If a Seller wants to charge me the PayPal fees on top of the cost of the knife, that's OK. But it would make much more sense, from a PR standpoint, if they built those fees into the selling price of the knife in the first place.

As the original poster, I have to explain myself. I forgot about the .30 charge, so in figuring the percent, I thought I was charged 5.4%. I was wrong. Sorry about that. Yes, the charges are mostly fair, but other things Paypal does is NOT. See other Paypal threads for more info.

I guess one of those two was to me!

I use PayPal. It's easier and faster.

If I get a m/o from someone whether it's a USPS or a domestic my bank puts a 30 day hold on it until it clears at the other end. Apparently according to them this is standard practice at all financial instituitions in Canada due to a rash of forged m/o's. How comfortable would you be in sending me the m/o and I'll mail out your package a month later after my bank gives the OK and says you're not a liar and/or thief (which is what I think the 30 day hold is saying). PayPal is just another bank (maybe not legally) and I hate all banks just about.

A reminder, folks.

If you read Paypals terms of service, it is a violation to pass the Paypal fees on to your customer.

However, they do allow you to charge a 'handling fee', but it cannot equal the paypal fee amount.

If you get a USPS or Canada Post money order just take it to a Postal outlet. They will cash it for you immediately.
