How do you folks feel o1 would do in an edc role? I just don't know how it would do in an inside the waistband sheath with sweat, rain, humidity ect. Really it's the sweat I'm thinking of.

i carry my 0 1runt in a pocket sheath everyday

it will rust/patina whichever you wanna call it
i dont worry about it.

I carry an O1 knife every day, but not IWB. Mine are either on the belt or in a pocket sheath. I haven't had any issues. While at work I use the swipe it on the jeans to clean method, and then when I get home I wash in warm soapy water if I've been cutting food. When it goes off rotation it gets a coat of mineral oil and sits on the shelf. I have 4 that I EDC, 3 Fiddlebacks (Runt, EDK, Hiking Buddy) and one from another maker. I normally go a week or so per knife.

Edkarda Everyday on my belt . . . I did a forced Patina, but this is a companion that will do my biding  I don't worry about it. So far . . .so good!

Yeah probly when a good patina is worked up, it won't really rust that much.
Thanks for the replies

Some guys use a light oil, some use Tuff Cloth , then there is REN Wax. I guess there's lots of stuff that works. :)

I decided on o1 for my edc. Could have gone with stainless but I prefer carbon. I'm not worried much about rust, but I won't be carrying it like you will.

Put it this way... The only time I've ever had a knife rust on me (1095) was a neck knife that I forgot to take off. I had it under my shirt and slept with it on. Wasn't too bad, but it was mirror polished. Bar Keepers Friend works great to remove spot rust.

I scuffed up my Alabama Damascus Hiking Buddy getting some small spots off any suggestions how to polish the blade again?

not sure on damascus

but i had some rust spots on my blj
andy took care of it for me but also mentioned toothpaste for future spots

Those Alabamas didn't look like they had much of an etch. Was yours one of the few that he had the other week? I'd polish it out then etch in ferric chloride acid, but you'd have to be careful since it's already got scales. May or may not be a viable option.

01 is the best EDC steel in the world period. Once you've used it you come to love patina and the story the knife tells. After that a SS blade is always just blank. Plus, once you sharpen 01, every other steel you sharpen for the rest of your life will suck compared to it.

I prefer S35VN, but I've been wet for a month while doing Field work:( Even had some slight corrosion on S35VN... I do like O1 and my two larger Fiddlebacks are O1. Very quick to get a great edge on it. S35VN holds an edge better in my experience

I agree completely. Well said Andrew. Almost sounded as eloquent as Shakespeare,.......well except for the 'suck' part. ;)

Shakespeare embraced the suck.

So... Are you saying that you like, or dislike o1? I'm getting mixed signals there. :p

Seriously though, if I had to give up carbon or stainless for the rest of my life it would be stainless. I like high alloy powder steels, but what's not to love about carbon?? Any REAL knife nut knows carbon wins.

I think if you were near an ocean or fund the knife consistently wet it would make sense doing a CPM 154. Other than that. I never give a second thought carrying my carbon steel. I rub some beeswax and gun oil mix on a sun warmed blade and let it dry. Buff it and toss it in my sheath. If I use it hard I reapply. My blades look new due to this treatment. But I like the patina option as well.
